and you know this how? the wording in app now specifies what they will share if you accept. if they always shared, why now the permission request?
Because they got caught?

If you use an electronic device it shares your data. Full stop.

Your data is what makes all the internet free. This web forum is free because of your usage data and advertising and all that fun stuff. (simplistic)

Social media sites aren't free because Zuckerberg (et Al.) is a good dude.

Likely, I volunteer to be Plaintiff No. 1 - only because I have nothing else to do.

Truth. I can only imagine how much dough the makers of the Handy Level app, are still raking in.

And that's not even considering the phone manufacturers... Or computer software...

Ohh, and let's not talk how governments can purchase data from data brokers to track and target citizens without warrants... ?

The real issues are the data brokers.

In Canuckistan, we gratefully collect our own data and deliver it directly to the government so they can help make our lives better.

For real, Duke.
Maybe a class-action lawsuit is needed to straighten this out?

Even with it all deleted and turned off, I imagine all your data is recorded somewhere, or some of the highlights anyway (like the time I smoked the Tacoma on the double-lane on ramp!). Weeee!

Wasn't it Google that just got their hands slapped when it was discovered that even with location on your phone turned off and them saying they "absolutely don't track", they still track you. And wasn't Apple doing the same in the name of battery life?

I know (for a fact) that my 303 usage is deeply monitored by this forum ... just sayin'.

those aren't bogeys that's Soupie at the dump - that dumb chain always messes up tracking

Maybe a class-action lawsuit is needed to straighten this out?
Yeah, that always works.
Remember when Google was sued for 'incognito' mode:

People: "We want $5 billion for violation of privacy!"?
Google: "Best we can do is delete the data."

"Google will delete billions of data records as part of a settlement for a lawsuit that accused the tech giant of improperly tracking the web-browsing habits of users who thought they were browsing the internet privately.

The suit was originally filed in 2020 and accused Google of misrepresenting the kind of data it collects from users who browsed the internet via “Incognito” private browsing mode in Chrome. Google agreed to settle the suit late last year, but the terms of the settlement were first disclosed in a filing on Monday.

As part of the settlement, Google must delete “billions of data records” that reflect the private browsing activities of users in the class action suit, according to court documents filed Monday in San Francisco federal court.

“We never associate data with users when they use Incognito mode,” Castañeda added. “We are happy to delete old technical data that was never associated with an individual and was never used for any form of personalization.”

Castañeda added that the plaintiffs “originally wanted $5 billion and are receiving zero.”
