Battery Replacement Requirements

If you need to replace a battery, this seems odd...

• P 230: Do not disconnect the battery of the disabled vehicle as this could damage the vehicle's electrical system.

They are most likely referring to a vehicle that might still be running when trying to disconnect the battery. I have seen people do this and take out the ECM and PCM.

I had my battery replaced and advanced auto installed it (with me watching). They plugged something in the odb-II port, I assume it was a something with power included. I didn't have to do anything, everything worked as before. I let it sit overnight, and then later on I went into forscan and reset the BMS, but I don't think I had to do that.

I had Batteries Plus replace mine and had the same experience. They plugged something in to the port, replaced the battery, did some kind of flash, and it worked just like always. Not sure if the flash was a $99 rip off or not but I didn’t do anything but get in and drive afterwards.

With older vehicles with a 12V lighter socket you could buy a 9V battery adapter to plug into that socket to keep the "flea power" energized and keep the various processor/controllers from loosing their memory during cranking battery disconnect.
Cigar lighter sockets are long gone. I believe all my ranger has is a couple USB adapters with only one 'always on' for key off device charging.
Could these be used to back feed low voltage to feed the controllers with a 5VDC USB power pack?
Or could I attach my low amp battery tender to the battery cables before removing them?

I took the one power socket out and installed the brake controller in that position. Clean and neat.

I have a 2021 Ranger, replaced the battery last summer. Bought new battery at local parts shop, drive home took out old battery, put in new one. Didn't do anything other than replace it, reset clock and drive it! Truck runs drives fine, no codes nothing!
