I usually always turn off location access and precise location sharing via your device settings for the FordPass app and toggle off cookie settings online. Certain states also allow users to opt out of data sales via web browser sign-on. These opt-outs are usually taken seriously because they put the company at serious legal risk if it's been violated.

I'm looking forward to third-party cookie targeting being phased out by the end of 2024.
There is an option in MS Edge to block 3rd party cookies. How well it works, dunno. Seems like whenever a browser comes up with a way to block tracking or ads, the advertisers find a way around it.

"Ain't nobody got time for dat!"
Besides, I rather have access to the features of the app than worry about what Ford sees.
Do you carry your cell phone with you at all times> If you do, Google knows more about you than Ford ever will.
Before beginning, this reply isn't aimed at you personally. It is a general statement aimed at everyone, myself included.

I resisted the use of cell phones until I reached a level of management in Lenovo where my work demanded it. When I resigned from Lenovo, I threw my cell phone out and never looked back.

I crowd funded Purism's Librem 5 Linux Phone. I own that phone (and have not made a single phone call with it), and a Purism laptop that is also certified to not have back doors. BIOS has been replaced as well as firmware in the chips going into the build. So I put my $$ where my mouth is.

I don't feed the "Cookie Monster". I spent my career in the I/T industry. I was there when the move from mainframes to PCs begin and had a front row seat. I watched as Intel, MS, and Apple, and all the others built and grew up the industry. I spent significant time in IBM Research and Development. We saw in the 1980's and 90's where the tech was taking us. We helped define and implement it.

Technology is amoral. And more than that, it is an amplifier of the human heart. It enables extreme good, and evil. And humanity, driven by power and greed, has a propensity to use this knowledge for all the wrong reasons. Hitler could never have murdered those 6+ million people without IBM technology.

I don't use Google or their DNS network servers. Same goes for Facebook, Linkedin and the rest. I generally build my own computers, and run FOSS Linux on them all.

I know it is a losing battle... and I do not care. I watch in awe as the Lemmings follow each other to their detriment as they willing step off the cliff to their demise, (trading generations of hard fought freedoms for convenience).

The sadest part of this is that there is no refuge, no place left on this earth to find sanctuary. So I break out the popcorn, do my little part, and watch the show... knowing the outcome.

It very convenient until the tech you use is weaponized against you in one fell swoop.

It will never happen... until it does. You don't care what they do... until the reality is in your face, and you do. And it will be too late.

Enjoy the ride.

Funny, your “rant” is why I sometimes feel like giving up the fight (against taxes, EVs, surveillance, etc.). We’re losing and there’s nothing we can do about it. Even if you don’t have ANY electronic devices in your life, you’re surveilled.

We saw what you did last night, and we are not happy about that.

Yep!

Everyone around you is carrying mobile surveillance devices of all kinds.

You must work to have privacy in your own home.

Smart Devices! TVs, Ring door bells. AirBNB rentals and Hotel/Motels with cameras everywhere.

Walk in a Walmart and look at the cameras everywhere.

The list is endless... and growing more connected each day. Balloons stationary over cities with high def camera arrays that track everything and allow governments to follow anyone or any vehicle of interest with history for weeks on end.

In my USAF Military days at NORAD and SAC War Rooms back in the 70's, we had satellites orbiting that could read and transmit images with enough clarity and detail to read newsprint on the ground.

And don't get me started on taxes, my home property tax just increased 30% from last year!

Stepping off my soap box for a while.

It has been my experience that if they allow an individual the ability to easily block a feature, it simply means that have developed a more efficient way to get the data they want.

If you have an XL w/o remote start and never signed up for Ford Pass, and don't connect the phone to the truck, is there still data transmitted?

Probably. You still have a modem in the truck that Ford can access. If I leave my phone at home, I get a message on the screen, something like 'locations services and data sharing''.

All that I can say definitively is that with Telemetrics turned off with Forscan, the #8 fuse removed for Telemetrics, and the cellular modem unplugged, my truck does not have near the battery dark current discharge rate. It is now on par with my 2005 Ranger when left in the garage for 10 days. I used to have to break out the charger regularly.

So I suspect Ford was still communicating with my truck.

FWIW, I declined to enroll in FordPass when I purchased the truck new. So that was never a factor for me.
