I’ve tried both a manual bleed (jack up and open each bleeder while pumping the brakes) and also getting on slippery roads and jamming on the brakes to try and bleed the ABS.

My problem is, the brake pedal immediately grabs when you touch it, unlike other vehicles where there’s 5-10mm of free play.

Is there anything else that can be done to correct this? Not exactly spongy, but doesn’t feel natural and brakes too suddenly…

Just picked up a 22 ranger XLT two days ago and first thing I noticed was how soft the brake engagement was. Was worried I made a huge mistake. Just did the FORScan trick and what a difference. Thank you for this!!

I randomly got fed this video on youtube tonight. Glad I found it because my brakes feel softer than they should. But I thought maybe it was a Ford thing because my old Grand Marquis was the same way. What really got my attention was that the 2 Colorados at work have a much higher brake pedal, which takes adjusting to and sometimes feels like I hit the brakes too hard. Might see if I can do anything with this after my half-day of work tomorrow

I keep hearing of this trick, but what do you need to do?

use Forscan to perform a brake bleed. You need to bleed the brakes first. Mine got better for a bit, then resumed like it was. I am going to be bleeding the brakes soon.
I run a MAC machine so I'm just researching how to get Forscan for MAC OS.

Here is a write up on how to do it on a Mac. You're going to have to do a lot of backend work. Again, I tried something similar, but never got it working.

I'm surprised nobody tried doing this with Parallels.

I did. I'm not a code guy though, so... without writing something I have no idea about, I couldn't get it to work. It took me months to get Parallels and its lingering files off my Mac. When I tried to launch outlook, it always tried to launch outlook from windows (parallels) which didn't exist on my computer anymore.

Parallels does leave stuff behind, but when it works, it's pretty awesome to go back and forth between OS's. With Parallels, there's no coding involved.

I run Linux.

Apple's OS is at it roots based upon a modified Unix / BSD family tree that has major command structure similarities to Linux. Using WINE or any other of those options will work. I have tried all the options for Linux, even Oracles VirtualBox which I thought was the best.

But I found using those tools simply wasn't worth the risk or trouble. Tuning each for the few windows apps that require Windows. Then wondering if it was worth the risk of Forscan running on Wine crashing in the middle of an Forscan truck update.

WINE also opens a possible Windoz virus corridor on your Apple or Linux system. Using Virtualbox or any container/sandbox solution is a far safer option.

I had VirtualBox working great, but I was still uneasy about it. So I picked up a very nice Thinkpad 450s (with touchscreen) cheap. I just looked and Amazon has them for $170. I've seen them for less. Mine came from IBM surplus and looks brand new. I replaced the 256GB spinner with a 128GB Samsung SSD to speed things up and make the laptop more shock resistant.

I keep it "air gapped", I don't need AntiVirus SW or any updates. I have disabled all of the bloatware / spyware garbage that MS defaults to and many of the services.

Much easier using Forscan with the touchscreen than the touchpad or mouse. I've got 5 or 6 apps that still require Windoz that I use occasionally. Label Makers, CNC Controllers, Forscan, Geiger counter tools, Logitech Harmony Remote, and a few more. When set to optimize the battery, it will run for 10-12 hours before needing a charge!

I break it out 6-10 times a year when the need arises. Much better solution for me.

Forgive me for not reading thru all 22 pgs.
But this looked like a good place to ask...
Anyone ever try the get up to speed, then stomp the brake pedal, trying to activate the ABS system..which will
bleed air out of the valve ?? ...I read it somewhere on this site

You would have to do it multiple times to get it to operate long enough to purge any/all air that is in it.
and even then, all it is doing is moving the air out of the module and pushing it into the system without doing the full system bleed along with it.

My ABS kicks in frequently when offroad as I come up fast on turns.
I just give the E-Brake a light tug to get it aimed in right direction, then dirt drift it the rest of way around the corner...?...
