I have a 2019 Ranger xlt. The full description is in my signature line. It’s basically a stock truck with just a few aftermarket items that do not affect the engine, suspension, electronics or interior. Just lipstick items really.

it has 22,200 miles on in. One of the benefits (ha! Wish it wasn’t true) of being disabled is the parking spots. They are nice and roomy. I have no door dings or any body problems. Last time I checked the on-line car / truck buying services and I had a solid offer at a Hyundai dealer a couple weeks ago for $28,500 on an ionic 6. I think last year it was still at $32,000 as a trade in! The truck will be paid off in a few months. It is a nice thought the have a 22K mileage truck and no more monthly payments.

I’m looking at getting a Tesla model Y long range awd. Say what you will about Elon. I test drove the model Y and was floored by the car. Welcome to the 21st century! Amazing! I have mostly had mustangs and trucks with fords 5.0 since the 1990’s. I LOVE HORESPOWER and the feel and sound the a loud exhaust. The Ranger is my first vehicle in a long time with a 4 cylinder and no exhaust note to speak of.

Ever time I get close to biting the bullet, we have a need for the truck. Someone in the family borrows it to haul something. Just yesterday we drove 5 people who represented 2 households to Costco and loaded up the 5’ bed nicely. It feels nice to help people out.

just fishing for thoughts and ideas. I’ve been reading about a heater issue that seems common in rangers with more miles on them? My 2016 Mustang gt had a simaler problem at 100k that cost me $1,500 to fix. They had to remove the dash to access the problem area. That really pissed me off that ford did not put a recall out given the number of owners that hit the issue.

thanks in advance.

if thats what you want to do go for it!! --- BUT a paid off 22k mile truck that you say you occasionally need.... ????? wow that is nice. just sayin if you need it now and then, like it AND its paid off, why not save that payment money for a few months or even like a year THEN get the Tesla if the is what you like??? -- I just paid my ranger (20 XLT) off about 3 months ago and it is nice to have a little money (I'm saving the payment money still) going forward. I do plan to go to electric at some point -- not soon I'm letting the tech continue to evolve ........ and I really do like the ranger a lot more now that payment is done and I only have about 40k on my 2020 so it should have a lot of life left. I did trade my F150 for a car several years ago and really missed having a truck turns out I'm a truck person, I just like them more than cars ---BUT good luck with what ever you wind up dong and you will get decent money for the ranger they are getting pretty popular I just wanted to make the point that a paid off car with low miles is a very good thing. - good luck with whichever route you take!

We’ve found we can’t do without a truck, there seems to be something to be hauled frequently. We went down to one vehicle as were semi retired, so the loaded up truck was the way to go.

Recalls are only for safety related issues.
Early death and difficult access for HVAC stepper motors is a problem every manufacturer has.
Rich, just be prepared for something like this to happen:

This seems to be a common attitude among the EV devotees. Electricity is free to use where ever you find it. But they complain just as loud about their home electric bill each month.

I own a 2023 CX-5 Turbo and love it. Excellent engineering and quality.
Just purchased the wife a 2024 CX-50 Premium Plus Turbo and it is a fine car. She has been in MB for the past 27 years and she made the swap after a test drive. Mazda has 0% right now also. Darn thing is rated to tow as much as my Bronco ,lol.

WIth a kiddo on the way, I was looking at trading in my ranger as well for something a little more spacious for hauling people, rather than just stuff. However a quick look at interest rates said that was a bad idea right now, especially as my truck is at 0%. That said, the Explorer ST still looks like WAAAAY more fun on the day to day basis than the ranger is.

Honestly if you can charge at home most of the time and will not be doing so much travel outside of your state or the Super Charger network is decent, I say go for it. But if your gonna rely on the SC network, these prices will erode your gas savings. You can also get an extended warranty for probably 1000-1500$ . This should cover trans and the blend door/heater issue that requires entire dash to come out.. That being said my wife drives a bolt EUV and we love that little car. Got it when gas was 6$ in CA. but I will say having both has been excellent.

Certainly the choice is up to to you, but they are completely different vehicles. I could not make that change personally. From what i've read about Tesla Y's is their not so great build quality, let alone charge and range issues in colder weather. Too many variables for me. I will stay with my Ranger that has already had the HVAC issue fixed. Maybe you could get an extended warranty to settle the issue now.
Speaking of build quality, a relative just purchased a Model S Plaid sedan for some obscene amount of $$.

For what she paid for it the build quality was atrocious and unacceptable, numerous body panels were mis-aligned and the right front door had to be lifted slightly for it to latch properly, much like that of an aged full size '70's coupe's 6 foot long door.

I didn't have the heart to tell her that it appears as though her car was assembled by a group of deranged and blind orangutans...

We sold our 2019 CX-5 Signature and replaced it with the Y. :D

The turbo was the only reason we went with it. It was flawless for the 4 1/2 years we owned it. I hope you enjoy yours!

@pa-fatboy my friend, re-read your 4th paragraph and focus on the last sentence. One thing we need in life is purpose. Not trying to be too philosophical, but this is the fish caught from me.

Watch what happens to a regular Energizer AA lithium battery when the lithium gets wet. Now how many Lithium cells are in the average EV?

The Tesla Model Y has 4680 battery cells, far more than most other electric cars today.

I think too many missed this line in his comments, "It feels nice to help people out." Some people gain pleasure from helping others. I say keep the truck if you can.
