I have a 2019 Ranger xlt. The full description is in my signature line. It’s basically a stock truck with just a few aftermarket items that do not affect the engine, suspension, electronics or interior. Just lipstick items really.

it has 22,200 miles on in. One of the benefits (ha! Wish it wasn’t true) of being disabled is the parking spots. They are nice and roomy. I have no door dings or any body problems. Last time I checked the on-line car / truck buying services and I had a solid offer at a Hyundai dealer a couple weeks ago for $28,500 on an ionic 6. I think last year it was still at $32,000 as a trade in! The truck will be paid off in a few months. It is a nice thought the have a 22K mileage truck and no more monthly payments.

I’m looking at getting a Tesla model Y long range awd. Say what you will about Elon. I test drove the model Y and was floored by the car. Welcome to the 21st century! Amazing! I have mostly had mustangs and trucks with fords 5.0 since the 1990’s. I LOVE HORESPOWER and the feel and sound the a loud exhaust. The Ranger is my first vehicle in a long time with a 4 cylinder and no exhaust note to speak of.

Ever time I get close to biting the bullet, we have a need for the truck. Someone in the family borrows it to haul something. Just yesterday we drove 5 people who represented 2 households to Costco and loaded up the 5’ bed nicely. It feels nice to help people out.

just fishing for thoughts and ideas. I’ve been reading about a heater issue that seems common in rangers with more miles on them? My 2016 Mustang gt had a simaler problem at 100k that cost me $1,500 to fix. They had to remove the dash to access the problem area. That really pissed me off that ford did not put a recall out given the number of owners that hit the issue.

thanks in advance.

Looks like you answered your own question.

If you really want a Telsa just for kicks why not buy one of the used ones from Hertz and keep the Ranger. They're going for a little as $21k.

Certainly the choice is up to to you, but they are completely different vehicles. I could not make that change personally. From what i've read about Tesla Y's is their not so great build quality, let alone charge and range issues in colder weather. Too many variables for me. I will stay with my Ranger that has already had the HVAC issue fixed. Maybe you could get an extended warranty to settle the issue now.

Watch what happens to a regular Energizer AA lithium battery when the lithium gets wet. Now how many Lithium cells are in the average EV?

You can always rent a truck if needed. Plus, without a truck, people will stop asking you to borrow it or asking you to haul something for them.

Can't believe everything, or most things, you read about EV's on the internet. :)

They're not for everyone, though.

I won’t bust your balls on what you want to buy.
Im not a fan of plug in vehicles.
You have to do what works best for you.

I will say I don’t loan my truck or run it as a taxi. I’d say a car will cut that out. Can this new vehicle haul people and products?

I would keep the ranger and look at other options for a second vehicle. Many to choose from that are naturally aspirated and would serve you well. If you really educate yourself on EV technology then you will understand where the technology stands. Also, what goes into producing one of these vehicles will be an eye opener. Just my honest opinion. On a side note I drive a Mazda CX30 Premium Turbo. Awesome vehicle around town and fun to drive.

I love my 2019 Ranger and suffer from acute range anxiety, so for me, this is a no-brainer...
