I hate the bills and all the things I have had to pay for out of pocket including the dreaded engine and transmission (EcoBust!!), and just got my rear lights robbed... because FORD.

But every time I sit in it and all the miles and memories I have made in it, it is my Ride or Die. The dies are stacking up along with my empty bank account, but it really is a fun and comfortable truck for what I need it to be as a go-anywhere-mobile(most anywhere) with A/T tires, but lighter and more nimble than a full-sized truck.

Not sure I would do it again though, maybe I need a 4Runner. I hardly use the bed, never tow, and it has had reliability issues. I will keep it going till my payments are over and evaluate then. They depreciate like a rock and it is not worth much of anything as a trade-in.

Nope, not me.

However, a small percentage of the 17,000 members on here, who represent only a very small percentage of all 5g Ranger owners in NA, amplify their woes so strongly that it only seems like these issues are widespread, and affect every single new 5g Ranger.

One might also draw a similar conclusion from this forum that all 5g Rangers have aftermarket wheels, levelling kits, bigger tires, RTTs, off-road bumpers, multiple light bars, and a host of other modifications, when in reality, only a small percentage of members have made such changes to their trucks. However, they amplify these changes strongly.

Yes, some folks have some real issues with their trucks and it certainly sucks when they do. I’m not suggesting they don’t exist but I am suggesting they are not as prevalent as the small vocal minority might lead us to believe. I lurked on Ranger forums in the past to learn how to fix problems with my aging 4g and a simple Google search of a particular problem with any make/model of vehicle will result in a ton of forum thread results.

Along with posts by enthusiasts wanting to learn about a vehicle or how to modify it, vehicle forums are all filled with threads discussing the issues people are having - it’s simply one of the places they go to find out how to fix things or if they are alone in their plight.

I would suggest that the thousands of members without issues, who aren’t posting their concerns because they have nothing to post, are the yardstick by which we should measure the reliability of our Rangers.

If they were somehow magically motivated to post about how their truck is just fine, it would likely appear to forum readers that the sun shines out of the 5g Ranger’s tailpipe.
I think a lot of people I see driving them in Texas where I live are older people who do not want a full-size truck and do not want to wait for a Maverick. They do very few miles on them and have no or few issues and fix them under warranty and are not vocal on here.

The people here that have issues are modifying them or taking them out like they have a Raptor or Bronco with a bed, and that is not the case with the 19-23 models that are Ford Edge's with a bed made with Ford's international version parts, sissy Eco-Bust 2.3l motor and (class-action case pending) 10-speed automatic made for small SUVs torque.

I have beat mine to hell and back, stuck in Utah mud, taken it across the country racking up 100k miles in 2 years, and paid dearly for it, it's not a Toyota for better or worse. I still smile when I drive it, and that's all that matters to me!

The 2024 will be made alongside the Bronco, which still has bad powerplant options, but hopefully, some good tech and construction will get ironed out better for the way America uses trucks and we will be too busy enjoying the trucks to be on forums griping.

I guess I would have to answer “yes” to "if I bought the wrong truck”.I have a 2021 Lariat FX4 and I really like the truck...in general. However,I now have 21,000 miles on it and here’s my list of issues.1) driveshaft slip bump 2 visits (repaired) 2)SYNC 6 visits with parts changed finally fixed with software update 3)Waiting on rear leaf spring and lower control arm to ship...truck bangs horribly from front end and rear end when turning (Never towed anything or been off road).Did I pick the wrong truck?I would definitely say YES!

If you plan on keeping it long term a ext warranty may be a good investment.

I'm no expert on Fords, but I recall riding in my Aunts Mustang II back in the 70's, so I can reliably say that was a POS.
The official ad campaign was: "Mustang II, Boredom 0"
Although it is rumored that Boredom has challenged for a rematch.

Nissan F'n Frontier ! No, that doesn't sound right ,

GM F'n Twins ! Ehhh, no...

Toyota F'n Tacoma ! That does kinda work , but it's the owner saying it at every stoplight and hill in a derogatory tone ...

Ford F'n Ranger !!! Well that just feels right ,doesn't it ? The profanity compliments it quite nicely imo...

Friday yet?

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.

If I may, I'd suggest you research the facts just a bit more. The Ranger is a truck. From the frame on up. Edge? Not. As to the pending class action issue... if you use that as a barometer for your next vehicle purchase my guess is that you'll be buying a Giant or a Trek bicycle. Because you'll not find one vehicle for which someone hasn't tried to start a class action suit about some perceived "massively widespread" issue... with a lawyer behind them goading them on while said attorney dreams of his 35% cut.

The 2024 will be made alongside the Bronco,
You seem to be stating this as if it is a change. But this is exactly how the 19-23's were produced.

Sorry for the issues you are having with your truck. But the 19-23 Rangers have balls. Engine? I'd argue it's a good one. Ability? It's a 1/2 ton+ truck. While I've not towed with mine, yet, I've most definitely used it as a truck and it doesn't even break a sweat.

True, maybe the Broncos are based on the international Ranger.
Gen 6 Rangers have a different build than our gen 5's and are winning awards in markets that already have them. I just hope that as the Bronco gets structural tweaks those commonality parts will trickle over to the Ranger now that they are built on the same line for USA market. I'd Like G.O.A.T modes too. The '21 I have with Ford Sync 2 is pretty dated too and OTA updates don't do much as the chips and screen are old-tech.

Cracking a cylinder wall and stripping the 2nd and reverse gear throwing codes resulted in a $13,000+ (including installation) crate engine and gearbox after 80k miles of mostly city and highway miles is not a great engine, IMO. I only did a few gravel roads, no heavy off-road driving, I only have the FX2 package with e-lockers, not 4x4. The start/stop just tires out a cylinder and why I think cylinder #4 cracked the block doing highway miles trying to keep up with the other 3 well-rested ones. I turn that off now when I get in the truck but there is no way to do that in the setup that I can find. No amount of gas savings will justify needing another motor.

Agree on that point, but of the 400,000 5G US Rangers on the road, how many are affected? I bet it's less that 1%.
