Everyday I lose sleep over the bed height, potential fuel in oil, transmission shifting, and now the dreaded noisy fan.
Well, that bed height design flaw might be the one thing all 5g Rangers have in common. ?

Logging on to Carvana now! ;)

My wife, but only because she says it's too small inside. She agreed to marry me though so her decisions and opinions are a bit questionable.
With all the issues that come up I’m thinking I made a bad choice.
Immediately after taking delivery of my 5G, I realized I screwed up......... should've but 2: 1 for work and 1 for play

I want to mention when I say these trucks are poorly built I mostly mean the panels, interior, ect.
I believe the drive train is fairly solid, despite the iffy transmission. Just so many cut corners in these trucks in terms of plastics and the like.

My truck in particular is poorly made; all 4 windows are loose and rattle within the doors when down.
Dashboard rattles, wind noise, ect. Lots of tiny, dumb issues but the only thing I think would leave me stranded is that iffy ass battery. Engine/drivetrain wise I think I'm solid.

Nope, not me.

However, a small percentage of the 17,000 members on here, who represent only a very small percentage of all 5g Ranger owners in NA, amplify their woes so strongly that it only seems like these issues are widespread, and affect every single new 5g Ranger.

One might also draw a similar conclusion from this forum that all 5g Rangers have aftermarket wheels, levelling kits, bigger tires, RTTs, off-road bumpers, multiple light bars, and a host of other modifications, when in reality, only a small percentage of members have made such changes to their trucks. However, they amplify these changes strongly.

Yes, some folks have some real issues with their trucks and it certainly sucks when they do. I’m not suggesting they don’t exist but I am suggesting they are not as prevalent as the small vocal minority might lead us to believe. I lurked on Ranger forums in the past to learn how to fix problems with my aging 4g and a simple Google search of a particular problem with any make/model of vehicle will result in a ton of forum thread results.

Along with posts by enthusiasts wanting to learn about a vehicle or how to modify it, vehicle forums are all filled with threads discussing the issues people are having - it’s simply one of the places they go to find out how to fix things or if they are alone in their plight.

I would suggest that the thousands of members without issues, who aren’t posting their concerns because they have nothing to post, are the yardstick by which we should measure the reliability of our Rangers.

If they were somehow magically motivated to post about how their truck is just fine, it would likely appear to forum readers that the sun shines out of the 5g Ranger’s tailpipe.
Agreed. All trucks have different points that make them what they are. I've had a few issues with mine, but nothing that couldn't be dealt with. For many, these are not sedans that spend their cushy little life on pavement. They're bigger mechanical, all duty vehicles. Compared to most vehicles on the market, the Ranger has no more issues of keeping it from being driven for long periods of time that would be causing concerns. I hate it when I hear of lemon vehicles or major failures but there is not a forum out there that is going to have a perfect vehicle according to their subscribers. If buying a Ranger was that bad of a deal for this person, I can only say that I hope they get good trade in value and pick something they like better. I'm satified with mine, and will deal with which ever issue comes my way.

Well said. Pick any specific vehicle forum and you will come away thinking that vehicle is junk. Yes, I am a bit worried about the longevity of the turbo and the 10r80 in my Ranger and glad I have a beater car for my work commute.

I have a lot of sympathy for those hit with the heater box issue etc. and can’t say I blame them for jumping ship. Overall Ford quality seems to have suffered the past decade starting with the DCT trans debacle. You have to be careful to not jump from ship to sinking lifeboat tho as everyone else seems to have sank in the quality department too. Years ago people looked at me in disbelief when I told them all of the things that went wrong with my Celica… they did the same thing even when I showed them the stack of receipts for the 3rd gen 4Runner I sold last year.

End of semi coherent ramble ?
Edit: ^ almost the end. I bought my 21 Lariat Tremor with 3500 on the clock. It’s just over 25k now. Aside from the slight driveline vibe and weird trans shift when cold it’s fine. Nothing has broken or failed.

No problems on my '21 at 42K, other than I think I need new shocks.

Cruise the forums for the GM twins, Tacos and Frontiers. You will come to a conclusion that everything is crap and maybe you should ride a bicycle.

Go get in a maverick and you will see shit interior. I think the Ranger has a nice interior that is quite durable. It seems to me a truck owner would want durability over plush.

2020 Owner. Major satisfaction. Minor gripes

Pros:
- This truck is extremely comfortable to sit in.
- Interior is nicely set up to be easily controlled. Even the HVAC is muscle memory now
- Engine is fantastic. No gripes.
- Tows, Hauls like a champ.
- Visibility is very good.
- Overall fantastic vehicle
- This forum, everyone just has fun. People here are wonderful. I've been on other forums like tesla, rivian, and toyota and everyone there just sucks. Say something bad about the vehicle and you get tarred and feathered.

Con:
- Transmission. Jerky shifts and constant dread of it grenading itself. Maybe I'm overthinking it. Just hoping it lasts a long time.

Minor Cons:
- Wish the steering wheel would telescope another inch or two. Would allow me to not sit with my legs scrunched up as much as they are. (Again, see pt #1 of pro's. It's still really comfy)
- Too tall. Personal preference. Would have preferred the stock height of the truck to be an inch or 2 lower. People who want taller trucks will lift them anyways, but this truck is impossible to lower without turning it into a low-rider due to how the rear suspension is set up. I just want something easier to load and unload things in the bed.

None of my gripes are enough to make me want to part with the truck. (Well it depends on the day and how it handled that drive whether I want to sell it or not haha. Sometimes it drives like a kid learning stick, other times it drives like a Cadillac.)At this point, it's lost enough value that I'm in it for the long haul at this point.

Long live 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Ranger'.

Coworkers ‘19 Acadia Denali with 49k miles had a failed thermostat. Luckily he was just inside the warranty. Weird thing it kept throwing errors about steering assist being unavailable etc due to temp sensors. Engine was running too cool. It’s a common failure on the GM 3.6 v6 (which has a long long list of other weak points).

I've had mine for over two years now, and aside from my recent oil leak, have had no issues at all. I'm glad that issue happened now rather than in a few months, because it just squeaked in under warranty; had it held out until the spring, I'd likely have had to pay for it out of pocket, and might have bitched about it here.

Overall, I find Ford's to be fairly reliable. Before this, I had a 2g Escape for nearly 12 years, and my sister got similar out of her early-00's Focus. Neither of them gave us much trouble until they succumbed to salt corrosion & rust. After her Focus, she had a Jeep Compass which only lasted 5 years, and now she has a Santa Fe which goes through windshields like they were toilet paper, but that seems to be an idiosyncrasy of her particular car (or blatant misfortune), rather than something that's common across the model.

As Duke says, forum's tend to be a soapbox for the minorities who have the misfortune of ending up with the runt of the litter, or those who are enthusiastic modifiers, and as such can be full of useful information and insight, but they're hardly a decent benchmark for the overall product.
