Because the noise I
I don't think we're hearing the same noise then.
Apparently the dealer and I are not. Try a different dealer. I wish you were close so I could hear it in person. I listened to the video again but still don’t hear it. A malfunctioning or dirty injector could cause noise if it’s not atomizing correctly. Hard to diagnose.

I understand. It's hard to diagnose anything like this over the internet. I've put premium fuel in it and added some fuel system cleaner to see if that helps. I'll update the post when I have more info. Thanks

Now, It is hard to hear the pinging sound you are talking about, and if you have tried plugs, air filter and higher-octane fuel with zero change, then it's time to look elsewhere for the noise.

This to me, sounds like your noise and matches the noise cycle.

Just might be it;

Listen Below from previous poster.

This is the Wastegate Actuator, as viewed from just above the Right Front Tire

Out of curiosity for those that are following this thread as this brings a question.

When I open my driver's door, I hear the actuator cycle to a powered position. This is normal wake up (movement) however my question is everyone's annoyingly loud?
Mine has been loud since new and at first, I was led to believe the noise was fuel pump prime.
The fuel pump prime is removing any fuel vapor that the fuel rail & HPFP collected during engine shutdown.

Now both the fuel pump prime (which is actually about 3 seconds) and the actuator cycle are on the same wake up circuit, so they occur at the same time.

I may post a video of it for owner comparison, just curious if all are the same sound decibel.

For the OP, if you can find a way to secure your camera or phone in that area of the Wastegate, you MAY find this as your noise.

My door open in the morning noise is pretty loud and always has been. I thought it was just an over jealous fuel prime. Only recently learned about the wastegate wakeup call as well.

I think some caution when using fuel system cleaners may be in order, although the Ford service centers are always pitching the B&G additive when I take mine in for oil changes and tire rotations.

The thing about supposed pre-ignition is that the ECU is equipped with sensors and programming to prevent it. That's why many of us suspected a performance tune at play but if you've pretty much flushed the fuel system with high octane it should have cleared up quick. If there are/were codes it could indicate a bad sensor. I'm going to presume you went to an auto store that will run a free diagnosis (although they might not if you don't have a CEL light) on the hopes you'd buy something needed - spark plugs, air filter, chrome wheel valve caps.

Tbh the chrome vavle stem caps did improved my gas mileage...I'm going to take a closer look at the waste gate actuator. I've never noticed it making noise before but I'll have to keep my ear out for it now. I don't think its that because the duration of the noise seems longer, but I'll look into it. Thanks guys

I never even noticed the waste gate noise. All I hear when I open the door is the fuel pump priming.

Which noise comes from the driver's side? One time all I did was touch the tire and heard the noise.

I've never heard the fuel pump prime, but that turbo wastegate actuator self check sure is audible.

Mine has always randomly performed the turbo actuator self check. I have been in the garage before, without my keys, and it just wakes up to self check randomly then goes back to sleep.

On the topic of ping though, does the Ranger have the variable intake runner flaps? I know prior generation Ranger 4 cylinder engines had that and they made noise similar to pinging after some miles as they fluttered in the intake runners at certain rpm's.

I occasionally hear a noise that is similar to pinging at certain throttle positions and figured we got the intake runner flaps that flapped.

Oh thats a very very good point, it should say so in the manual or on ford.com
