Dealership didn't help. They requested some assistance from Ford but they haven't gotten back to me yet about anything...I tried to call today and never got a response. I'm keeping on them about it. Still running 93 octane through it and it's getting 20mpg now which is nice, but the ping/rattle...
Tbh the chrome vavle stem caps did improved my gas mileage...I'm going to take a closer look at the waste gate actuator. I've never noticed it making noise before but I'll have to keep my ear out for it now. I don't think its that because the duration of the noise seems longer, but I'll look...
I understand. It's hard to diagnose anything like this over the internet. I've put premium fuel in it and added some fuel system cleaner to see if that helps. I'll update the post when I have more info. Thanks
The service manager over at the dealership took a ride with me and he heard it. He's supposed to be writing Ford about it to see what they say. As for the sound of the noise in general, my old Dodge had the same noise but much louder. I had a guy - who was pretty knowledgeable about cars...
I agree, and I like this truck but engine problems early in the vehicle's life is not a good sign. All the small things I can get over, as long as the truck is reliable. I'm going to try a colder plug to see if that helps at all.
Okay look, if preignition rattle is a "normal" noise for a newer Ford truck, then Ford mucked up pretty bad. Even with a full tank of 93, it's still pinging like a sob. Pinging may be normal in the world of crappily designed trucks, but its not normal in any commercially produced truck of good...
If you had read my previous posts you would know I had a drop off scheduled with the dealer, and if consulting with other Ford owners is dicking around, what are you doing on here?......Anyways I have an update....So I finally got my truck back after leaving it at the dealer for 2 weeks. They...
Reving it without a load won't make it audible enough. I beleive the engine has to have a load on it. But it's possible we have a similar issue. I've had other car guys tell me this is ping; and if so, its something we should all be worried about with these engines. Hopefully we'll get some more...
Inside the cab it sounds like this video of an F150 I found, although it's not as severe as this. But backing off the throttle does make it stop. Same noise though, just from a different perspective.
So that random clicking noise that sounds like something rattling inside the engine isn't ping? From what I've been told and the things I've heard, it sounds exactly like it. Once again, I had an old Dodge that had the same sound and it was identified as engine ping, plus any video you watch on...
I've registered the engine serial number with Ford Performance and it doesn't show me anything. Other than taking it to the dealer, I don't know how else to check for a tune. I'm reluctant to mention a tune to the dealer's service center in case its not a Ford tune...I don't want to lose my...
It defiantly sounds like pinging to me. My old ram 5.9L did the same thing, only much worse. It's hard to hear over the other engine noises, but putting my phone on top of the engine was the best way to record it. At 16-21 seconds you can hear the rattling
Here's a video I just took after putting in a WIX paper air filter (nobody had a Motorcraft version). This is with new plugs, half a tank of 93 with half a tank of 87, and the new filter. It actually sounds worse after the new air filter. The pinging starts at the 16 second mark.
Alright so I have an update. Spark plugs have been replaced and I've topped the truck off with half a tank of 93 octane. My gas mileage has improved from 16.4 to 18.9 in the 50 miles I've driven it; however, the pinging has not gone away by any stretch of the imagination. Doing the math, even...
There's no cover over the OBDII plug and I actually just got back from a trip to NC. So unless the gas in FL, GA, SC, and NC is all bad, it's not just a local gas problem. For my next fuel up I'm going to try higher octane and post my results.
The stock tires are the general grabbers I think. That's what my spare is. Good to know the mpg could just be from the aftermarket tires. There's gotta be someone higher than a dealer you can contact about this issue. Ping is no small thing and for it to happen with multiple trucks sounds like a...
