you’re right it can happen to any other vehicle but it usually doesn’t in my experience. Every Toyota I’ve owned lasted at least 300k without a single failure other than things I caused. Have a Tahoe with 581,000 miles that’s never had a failure. Have a 97 z71with 312,000 that’s never had a failure other than an alternator. But my wife’s 2019 f150 needed a transmission at 100k. Now my ranger has a list a mile long with problems.

hopefully it’s a coincidence but I’m starting to have my doubts.
I have a hard time believing the two Chevys went that long without replacing the transmissions.......

Galvanic welding is common with dissimilar materials especially when many heating and cooling cycles are concerned. As another user said anti seize on the threads is the ticket for a long trouble free ride!

Told you guys these engine covers would become collector items in more ways than one!

What they’re asking for a head job is criminal especially when they know there is a design flaw involved. They keep doing this to customers a class action will be next.

Troubling to hear of this issue and Ford not standing behind the TSB and their product. Understandable for you guys making different choices. You have to do what's best for yourselves. Good luck on your decisions. Guess I am lucky I don't have spark plugs and do have a engine cover.
The TSBs only provide information on known problems. They are not an extended warranty. Ford will cover the cost of repairs in the TSBs if the vehicle still is under a warranty.

i think it may be a newer vehicle thing, my '04 lightning has 207k miles on it and i had the trans and engine rebuilt once, but its making 700hp-750tq and is driven hard and raced a lot.
My dad has an excursion with 250 or 270k miles on it, supercharged v10 and still has the stock trans running good.

I believe you are right. Much like this world and the people in it, things just keep getting shittier every day.

I am curious on what @P. A. Schilke take on this is?
Hi Chris,

I think the truck needs to see another dealer that will go to bat for the owner... I suspect there is more to this story than is covered here.... Overwashing is purer bs...you should be able to wash your truck every day if you wish to spend the time. Ford seems to have take a hardline on this truck being over the Warranty period for some reason...likely due to dealer input...

best,
Phil

yes, but it's still ford being asshats, since this is a known problem that won't be found unless someone tries to remove a spark plug while the warranty is active. if they instructed dealers to preemptively look for the problem then they wouldn't be asshats, but it would require a level of GAF that ford doesn't seem to have.

Wonder if Ford is going to update the TSB to include the 23's?

Really sucks for the OP. I'd be ape shit angry at Ford too.
I thought the whole reason water was getting on top of the engine was because of poor drainage below the windshield. This might have gotten better on later models. I haven't noticed water getting on top of my engine, but I don't check it very often.

So I have to ask - these are motorcraft plugs I am assuming since they are factory no? I remember the awesome 2 piece 5.4 3 valve debacle...

NGK or Denso (my two preferred brands) and some good anti-seize I think are in my future...

The 5.4 problem was not a plug problem. It was a plug installation problem. I had to helicoil 3 of them due to the previous owner dialing up a few to many ugga-duggas on my old F-150.

The OEM Motocraft is the best option for the Ford Products. I would only use NGK and Denso if the manufacturer called for it. For example my 1993 Nissan Pathfinder calls for NGK plugs so I will use NGK plugs.
