I just had mine changed at the dealer and its maybe 1/8th over the hashmark. Every oil change I’ve had puts it in the same spot.

Technically speaking yes the oil level is considered safe when it is inbetween the low and hogh marks on the dip stick. That said the capacity is 6.2 qts and I have confirmed that 6 qts is just fine. Main thing is to run the correct weight of oil. I myself use the Motocraft 5w-30 Full Synthetic and it did just fine

I put in 6; run it to look around for leaks. Let it sit. Then when it is settled - bring it to the top mark for full - that Id assume is around .1 or .2 of a quart. The rest of that quart goes in the swingcase if I ever need to top it off. So far; not needed. 6 on its own does not bring mine to the top mark.

I would NOT run it below full from the start. Just a bit of insurance in the event a leak shows up or it starts to eat oil. Not worth skimping on IMO.

Havoline 6Qt box goes in every oil change. Puts it a little below the top dot. Stays there for 5K until I change it. That's with the FL400 sized filter as well, so slightly more in there.

I got three oil changes from the dealer with fordpass points and since have done my own. After the last dealer one I asked the guy who did the change how much they typically put in. He said: "6 quarts exactly".

I changed mine today. 7qts of 15w40 Delvac heavy duty diesel oil. The extra .8 puts it very slightly overfilled. Just above the second hole in the dipstick. No crank strike or cassette foaming to be concerned about if overfilled by 0.8qts.

~59k miles. 15w40 and 5w40 diesel oil since new.

I buy two 5 quarts...one goes in completely the other I measure out 1.2 quarts...the next oil change, I buy another 5 quart for the first fill then another 1.2 from the previous partially used 2nd container...repeat until the 2nd is used up and buy another...

And if you knew anything about oil capacities over filling is worse than underfilling. Would not recommend this what so ever.

Frenchy, do you actually believe 0.8 quarts is an example of our engines being meaningfully overfilled? Any objective evidence for this? Do you know how to test or validate what you are insinuating to be a deadly, dangerous, and irresponsible condition? Please share your expertise with the forum.

More is not always better. Goes for viscosity as well as quantity.

I will agree. Its one thing if you have a hogher capacity oil pan, but I'm not even aware if such is available for the Ranger. That said its most likely not necessary either.

I'm pretty sure if they did make one it would be bigger than an extra 0.8 quart.

Yeah, I also agree. Who is the miscreant that's going around telling everyone to overfill their engines with as much oil as possible? Wow, are they really also saying to use as high a viscosity oil as they can possibly find?

Tell me who it is and I'll help you guys levy a personal attack against them.

Somebody has to do something.
