  1. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

Ah thanks. Yea I never looked that carefully at that as I was to going to remove it. Makes total sense why it's a stud bolt now.
  2. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

I was thinking of something similar but I was thinking of having a through bolt with the nut on the other side with flat washer to spread the load. I do like the addition of the fuel hose to route the harness through. I'm going to do that too! Oh, and good to know that's a stud bolt and not...
  3. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

Hmm, I think I'm going to do just that. :) Maybe this weekend.
  4. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

That fits with my experience as the hose on mine fell apart right on that ridge when I just touched it. The other side seemed fine to me. And, the rest of the hose, while still cheap, seemed fine when I just clamped the shortened hose back on for the trip to and from work the following day. I...
  5. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

Whew, I was sure I was wrong! When smart people tell me I'm wrong, I believe them. When I can't figure out why I'm wrong, I get worried! :)
  6. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

It does? The fan spins CW as I'm standing in front of the truck. I guess I've misunderstood the failure mode then. I thought the failure modes were that the module would spin with the fan and warp around the fan clutch pulling the wires out. What we don't know is that if the hose fails, will...
  7. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

It's a snap on. Many, many, years ago my cousin made dogfood and had two auto repair facilities near him. He got to know the snap on guy and when I was there I blew some $$ on some snap on tools too. And yea it makes some great flairs. Came in handy for all the times I made brake lines and...
  8. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

Alright, here is what I did. Picked up that heater hose for a 1994 Ranger that is 3/8" ID with nice thick walls: Next, here is the progress, old verses the parts I assembled: The old one next to the part that basically fell off in my hand last night. You can see how thin the walls are...
  9. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

I texted my friend who works at a Ford dealership up north and asked him to check in with his service reps. He said they are understaffed today so he will look for a time to chat with them but the also said they've sold 2 of these fan clutch assemblies in the last 2 years so he says it doesn't...
  10. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

After watching this I went out to the shed and grabbed some guy wire for TV antennas to put in just in case. While putting it on in squeezed the hose just a bit on the engine bracket side and it split. Sigh. So I pulled it off and put the hose back on with a screw clamp. My hope is the safety...
  11. It has happened to me! (Dreaded Fan Sensor - Crumbling Hose!)

So, to confirm, you are all using just 3/8" fuel hose the normal bulk kind? I ask because there is a pretty sharp 90 in the hose so my thought was to get a fuel hose that has a 90 and cut it to length. What are you all doing for the preventative maintenance?
  12. Bucking/Surging Epidemic

I have not continued to have symptoms after swapping out the DPFE. It's much smoother than before.
  13. Bucking/Surging Epidemic

Add me to the DPFE sensor club too at just over 61,000 miles. I noticed a few weeks ago some slight bucking while cruising at lower speeds ~30-45 MPH or so and my web search landed me on this thread. The sensor price has climbed dramatically and so it was around $100 locally here in CA. It...
  14. Anyone swapped out front belts?

To finish this up. On Monday, I pulled into Sunnyvale Ford at 7:50. A tech came out and I told him who I was working with. He came out, said they had the part, took my keys and said he'd get the truck into a tech. He said I could go to the desk and get an Uber home if I wanted. Since I knew...
  15. Anyone swapped out front belts?

Latest update. Called my friend in Folsom, asked him for the specific steps they took so that I could better explain it to the service techs. Then, called Sunnyvale Ford (since for some reason the dealer you bought the car from is somehow special according to just about everyone I spoke to...
  16. Anyone swapped out front belts?

Tried Capitol Ford yesterday afternoon and when I told the techs I figured out a way to get this to work they were not at all interested. They too seemed to be stuck in the "I have to use the part number my parts person gives me". When I try to get them to figure out how to escalate, they all...
  17. Anyone swapped out front belts?

My friend who works up in Folsom in parts talked to his manager about this who said "that doesn't wound right, give me that VIN and I'll look into it." He said that he thinks the problem with the base part number 2161203 is that the first two digits "21" are supposed to be for the body type...
  18. Anyone swapped out front belts?

Great idea, complaint filed. Will update here if it goes anywhere. thanks peterb
  19. Anyone swapped out front belts?

Indeed. My biggest frustration here is that it seems Ford has done its best to install a blockade in front of anyone who might be able to override this problem. I did find it somewhat ironic that when I told one of the Customer Care folks that the ford tech from Reddit saw that a certain...
