Anyone run a 9 inch wide wheel with 285s?

RTR is trying to talk me into running their wheels. They're +30 17s that are 9 inches wide. I use 285/75-17 Toyo ATIIIs. Anyone run a similar setup? My concern is rubbing. I'm on BP-51, so about two inches of additional suspension height.

Claimed advantage is dropping 10 lbs a wheel, which would totally be worth the hassle.

Why 9" wide?

I tried to keep the wheel/tire weight as close to factory when I upgraded mine. Here's what I ended up with:

~ KMC KM535 GRENADE OR Matte Bronze Wheels, 18x8.5, 35mm offset, 6.13 backspace
~ Toyo Open Country A/T III, 285/60R18, 120S XL

As far as your concerns about rubbing, I have a RangerLifts 3" Leveling Kit. I had minor rubbing on the front crash bars. I ended up taking off the outer-most bolt of the front bars and pushing the bar as far back as it would allow. That fixed the rubbing and I've had no issues since. You can also get aftermarket crash bars that are made to allow a bit more room. Search the forums, there are a TON of wheel/tire threads about this topic.

Running 275 - 65 / 18's on RTR's that are +25 (Basically a 32"). Considered 285's but I didnt want 10 ply in the AT Tire I chose. So 275 - 65/18 it is. No Rubs on Icon Stage 8 at 2.5" lift in the Front.

Plus I did a nicer set of crash bars, just cause I thought the old ones were ugly! So bonus. Tucked, just under the stock fender flares and they look good with a touch of a wider stance.

I get you asking, they're all sorts of answers, but finding someone with RTR's that you want to reference and get the look you want is tough.

285 on 17's Looks Bad Ass! My wife's Bronco got those.

275 on 18's Looks Clean

Excellent. What offset are they? Happy with clearance between tire and arch stuff as it turns and flexes?

Not exactly sure...the original wheel offset was +20...after adding fender flares, I added 1" spacers...all crash bars were removed to allow clearance and I have 2.5" level...

Yes I have RTR 0+ on 285s.

You will need to either replace, cut, modify your bars.

I had a 2" level and 2" spacers on factory sport wheels prior to getting my RTR wheels and eibach suspension. This gave me an offset of +4 on factory wheels and they had to go.

Edit: Hmm 30+ ? I dunno you might be ok.

Yeah, crash bars are gone already. I'm on stock wheels with one inch spacers right now.

I'm 99% sure they'll work. Just want to make sure there isn't some known issue I'll be running into.

I think you will be fine if I was a betting man. Even though my suspension is 1" higher than yours, you have a little over 1" of less negative offset than me.

I have 275s on 9 wide +18s and they rub the front bars. Plan on replacing them eventually.. probably replace the rears while I'm at it and step up to a 33" tire.

Lets do some basic math. The offsets for wheels are in MM. Factory is 55 MM. So going to the RTR will put the wheel out 25MM. That is basically 1 inch wich is a difference.

For my 2019 I ran the Nitrocharger setup(it came out first and didnt have money for the BP-51) on Factory Sport wheels and no spacers. I had the Firestone Destination XT in 285/70-17. I only had slight rub at full lock. That said if not mistaken the Firetsones are slightly skinnier compared to other All-Terrains.

Others on here have found that using a 1/4 wheel spacer up front will take away the rub up front. The closest you can get to with a wheel swap on that is a set of Tremor wheels(not the Raptor wheels as its a different offset) or go to O.Z. Rally Raid as the Offset is 44 MM for the 17x8 wheel.
