22 months totally dead battery

I just had my first failure at 28k miles and 22 months old. Truck started fine . I then drove my truck on a 35 mile one way trip on the highway at 70 mph . We got out to sight see for 45 minutes, came back, tried to start the truck and the truck was completely dead. I was pixxed . Luckily we found someone with jumper cables. After several start attempts and about 8 minutes total charging time it finally started with a jump . My Pioneer OBD gage said 13.9 charging vdc. I hightailed it home and made it no issues. $260 later 760 amp AGM battery was in and I was back up - no issues. I have NEVER had a brand new automobile battery die at only 22 months . Do Ford batteries suck ? I am in Florida btw (so no cold issues) .

I had mine replaced under warranty at 18 months. Now I always carry a jumper pack so I don't get stranded. If you don't drive a lot of miles per week and/or have a long commute you should always hook them up to a battery maintainer. These are always drawing power while sitting.

I’m in Florida too. Florida Heat kills battery. Mine went out at around 2 years and Ford replaced it for free under warranty.

Yeah I'm on my third. Both replaced under warranty.

Now got a battery tender and it's plugged in more than a Tesla.

I don't see how these batteries are such junk. Our 2014 Durango is still on the factory AGM battery. Ford needs a new supplier.

I have a hunch its a software issue- the battery charging algorythm.

could be. Curious if an aftermarket battery would last longer. But if it is a software issue, then I don't think there would be much of a difference.

yep that's it , doesn't charge to 100% - some say only 75% , some reasons for that but a lead acid battery that is consistently not fully charged will experience sulfation which shortens the life of a battery - as does excessively high temps. Either change the algorythm in forscan or use a batt tender - I do the latter.

this is concerning me. Im on the factory battery still. im installing a winch soon... i dont want to have to buy a battery or risk being stranded. what size batt do we have? whats the biggest that will fit in terms of cranking power etc. i have noticed newer battery life is not what older ones were. in 2005 i replaced both batteries in my dodge cummins. used continental from the old shop in fort worth. they were still testing good and working fine when i replaced them in 2013 just out of caution. my lil 4g seems to eat up a new battery every two years no matter what battery i get.

Good call on an aftermarket AGM. I have had two vehicles with optimas for over 10 years each. Sold them both with the same battery never an issue.

Lotta issues. Between factory BMS settings, AGM batteries, and folks that don't drive more than 2 miles at a time.

For what it's worth, my BMS charges to 90% and my factory AGM is at 30kish miles and 2 years going strong.

Just changed the wife's lead acid battery after 6 years and 40kish miles as well. When Napa tried to sell me an AGM for it I asked "do I look like the kind of idiot that would put an AGM into a vehicle designed for a lead acid?" This genius said, "there's nothing wrong with that at all." He wasn't too happy when I told him he should stick to being a cashier and stop dispensing advice.

Hard to tell if the battery croaked if it wasn't fully charged then load tested? Love the high tech battery boosters so much that jumper cables are a last resort for me....

My 2005 Mustang GT had the battery right up against the firewall on the passenger side. 3 years max, fail like clockwork, until I upgraded to the largest recommended battery (Ford specd 4 batteries for the Mustang that year depending on the motor and options). The final battery was in at 5 years, still going strong when the car was sold.

My 2020 had 38k miles no issues. Hope my 2022 is just as good

Batteries are a universal issue. Friends cherokee after 9 months, and my stepsons hyndai after 22 months 16k miles. Uncles explorer after 18 months. South texas, like throw a stone and hit mexico. So its just Batteries are crap nowadays. And all of them have been that new agm battery.
