im ordering a tuner today. im having a really hard time choosing who to go with. ive been reading threads here and on facebook for a week. i think i would prefer OZ but he is out of stock on the device. so im trying to choose between 5 star and unleashed. has anyone happened to recently switch from one to the other and have a preference?

the truck is a daily, not a race truck but the more power the better. i dont want clunky or hard shifting in D mode. in S mode?...bring it.

There's a lot of good tuners out there now so you're going to get a lot of different answers, here's mine. I went with a Livernois tune because I like that they give you 5 tunes to try and see which one fits your driving style. It's quick and easy to flash between tunes and their customer service is excellent. Many love Unleashed, Torrie has been tuning Ecoboost for years and that was my second choice.

You get to keep all 5 of them and they have free lifetime updates too. Also if you sell your Ranger and get another vehicle that they tune they will reprogram it for free. You just pay for the shipping of the tuner back.

You get:
tow tune
87-89 soft shift
87-89 performance
91-93 soft shift
91-93 performance

Only the FPP retains the warranty, and it's not actually the factory warranty.

The FPP gives you 3/36 from date of first service, so it doesn't add to your existing powertrain warranty.

It actually subtracts from your existing powertrain warranty as it now becomes 3/36 instead of 5/60.

5 Star offers extended aftermarket warranties for their tunes.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
I went with the FPP tune, both because I got a great price with ford points online, the warranty, and being comfortable with compatibility. I must say I really am happy with it, especially in tow mode. I do have a 5* tune in my Ford V10v3 Motorhome which really punched it up for the hills. You can't go wrong with any of the top 3 or four suppliers. Just a matter of which you are more comfortable with. I will say whichever vehicle I take in for any engine work I restore the tune to OEM, not for warranty, but if their sun machine updates the ECU strategy it will lock you out of your tuner if not returned to stock.

Good to hear and if you need help with the instal they'll walk you thought it but it's really easy and they give you good directions. One thing to keep in mind it does take time to "learn" every time you flash a different tune. You'll see instant results over stock but it does get better after several fill ups. I like the 91-93 soft shift tune and many others use the tow tune for their daily drive and love it too. Please give us an update once you instal it and let us know what you think.

OP, you can request an E30 tune from Livernois too (the lesser known option not many have dabbled in yet, including myself)

I think that I got the best tune ever. My truck runs just fine the way I got it. You car people should buy a car.
If you tune your engine by ear and have a tin ear you will have a tin engine.
