Retired, work is a four letter word.
I'll take something I can see coming days or week away vs the ground suddenly shaking under me.

Most of what you see on the news is typically isolated to where the eye comes in with the most wind damage.

So normally a day at most without power unless you live on the coast or it is a monster. During Ike everyone had power around me in 72 hours but a missing part kept my house and 4 others dark for a week. Hooray borrowed generator.

Not counting the slow moving asshole that was Harvey... I kept power but a lot of people near me got water in their house.
Yep, Hurricanes you get a lot of warning, I was in Iowa at my kids house and the damn Tornado sirens went off at 1 AM, and my iphone started yelling at me, scared the crap out of me. Missed their house by 1/4 mile..... no thanks

The day we left CA, gas was 5.70 a gallon. I took this photo when we stopped for gas in Arizona.

This is what my daily commute to work looked like in So Cal.

And what it looks like now at 7AM in Iowa.

I love our true four seasons of weather, and lots of genuinely nice folks that aren’t interested in being in a rush to get somewhere first, would rather be polite and friendly instead of a rude asshole, and could care less who has the biggest, latest and greatest whatever. To each his own, whatever makes things best for you and yours.

Gas is near $7 a gallon here, around $130 to fill the Ranger these days :(

California is not all it's hyped up to be.

If you're super wealthy it's a great place to move to and blow your money fast.

Crime is unreal (petty and serious)

No water/drought, gov hates reservoirs and dams according to farmers.

Two major cities (LA/SF) that have a strong hold on the entire state.

Fees, red tape, permits and headaches on everything.

Honestly most people fleeing might be the most like minded neighbors you've ever had! Not all of us Californians the nightmare types the news talks about lol

Second car I have is a 22' Tesla Model Y and let me tell ya 2.5hrs (Wait time + charging) to use a public charger doesn't convince me an EV is really worth it til some major infrastructure upgrades are in place. Hell the electric companies are forced to shut down power because the risk of wildfires. My father in law in Norcal tells me this as it's 90 something degrees with no AC at his house.

Nowhere is perfect in the world but I do believe you sacrifice alot for the PCH/coastline, temperate weather and the eastern Sierras/historic areas IMO.

I read where California refuses to capture rainwater an lets it run back into the ocean if it isn't collected "naturally". It wouldn't solve the drought but it would help. They also have a salt water distillation plant or two that are effective but they are cancelling future plants. If it's not a solar panel or windmill the people that run California don't want anything to do with it no matter how much it might help.

We Californians get what you non-Californians are saying about our state. I know at least 6 families that have moved out to Texas, Montana, Washington, and Arizona because they were tired of things here. Years ago, when we went out to the family lakehouse in Iowa every summer growing up, and when girls found out you were from California, you had it made. Now when you leave the state you almost have to take your plates off your truck or it gets keyed. We have suffered from our government's reputation and from the elite establishment that moved here from somewhere else. But the fact is that I am willing to put up with the crap because I love living here, and my son and his family are here. That's saying something when you are willing to pay more for everything to have the privilege of staying. I don't want to live somewhere just because it's cheap and the governor agrees with my views.

I had read somewhere that Gavin Newsom was going to roll back state gasoline taxes to help with the inflation burden.

I guess that didn't happen after all. :(
Fake news!!!

Ha.. no other state state has passed a cap and trade tax of about a buck per gallon that goes directly to the producers of oil products, not the consumers with the “promise” that tax cost would not be be passed down to the consumer…. Wait let me take another rip off of my bong… yeah I’ll vote for that.. And here we are.. Holy crap!!! Why are we paying more for gas than anywhere else in the nation!!!

Ok I will see myself out of this debate…

My only synopsis is this, hitting the bong causes memory loss and surprise wake ups plus remorse for the great ideas that come from that.. ?

My favorite thing is the gift of a sticker on a board of walnut warning me that said walnut can cause cancer. Pretty soon you guys will have stickers on live trees also.
Way to go Jeff, giving them ideas...

Thanks for this, I just filled up in Cali at 5.77. Best on base price at Beale. Spent 3 weeks here and seen 4 forest fires in the distance and not a drop of rain. I'm happily driving back to AZ tomorrow.

Fuel (diesel) is going up 10 php Philippine pesos. This is about $.20 per LITER. I am paying right now the equivalent US price of $6.47 a gallon.
Luckily I don't have to drive far for all the things I need. Sometimes I just ride my mountain bike(I actually enjoy that).

Let me see if I have the right. Gas prices have risen because of inflation, and Gavin Newsome raises the tax on gas because of the inflation that caused the price of gas to rise. Makes perfect since if you're a politician. Ummmmm, politicians......Dayum.........

"Politician", from the Greek words "Poli" meaning blood sucking, and "tician" meaning parasite.

and now the big LA universities are leaving the pac12 for the big10. seems like they want to get out to the midwest as well, even if just for a few visits a year:crazy:
