California is set to roll out its long-awaited ban on new gasoline cars on Thursday, which is part of its rule to have all new cars sold by 2035 to be electric only in an effort to fight climate change.

Governor Gavin Newsom first announced the ban in 2020 as a means to reduce he amount of smog-induced pollution in the air, which will improve the state's air quality that is the worst in the US.

The move will also make California the first in the world to mandate zero-emission vehicles on its roads.

Well that's one way to cut down polution in California, get everyone to leave. How are they going to power all these EVs, they can't supply their electrical needs now.

I just read that Bank Australia has announced it will no longer finance new ICE cars, only EV's get a loan.

I suspect this is probably going to turn out to be a sleeves off your vest kind of move, but I did have to say, "a bank with a conscience, you don't see that every day..." :)

I just saw the Australian ban last night. They have no logical reason for this on either the city pollution or warming front. They paid to convert taxis and other huge vehicles from Petrol or diesel to Nat Gas years ago. Plus 50% of their vehicles are driven across the vast open spacers.

They are part of the Paris accords, plus bill 2022 (below) was passed this year, Australia is a democracy so apparently a majority of the populace feels strongly about greenhouse gases - their thinking was undoubtedly influenced after the raging wildfires a few yrs back, their country their right to decide. Interesting though as they export huge amount of coal - mostly to China whose cities have abysmal air quality.

The Australian Government has introduced the Climate Change Bill 2022. The Bill legislates the nation's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 43% below 2005 levels by 2030, and net zero by 2050.Jul 28, 2022

Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said, 'Current issues confronting Australian and global energy markets highlights why this long-term commitment is so important.

'This Bill confirms our commitment to ambitious but realistic targets supported by Australia's states and territories, business, industry, unions, environmental and community groups. It provides a platform for collaboration to drive down emissions while ensuring reliable energy supplies,' the Minister said.

'The Bill makes it clear that 43% is our minimum commitment and does not prevent our collective efforts delivering even stronger reductions over the coming decade.'

I bet I am the only guy on here to have met Gavin Newsom face to face, the rest of you guys/gals, just consider yourself lucky.

I was a member of his Ground Floor Club. This distinction was reserved for those dumb enough to be his earliest donors in his first mayoral race in San Francisco.

I gave him money to help his campaign for two primary reasons. The first was his platform of eliminating cash payments to the homeless and taking that money to establish better treatment and care for these same people, his so-called “care not cash” campaign promise.

The second reason I donated was his opponent appeared a far worse alternative to my mind, a fellow named Matt Gonzalez (at the time running as a socialist).

After he won his election, members of his Ground Floor Club were invited to celebrate at a party thrown by him for himself. At the time he was still married to Kimberly Guilfoyle. My first impression after meeting him was, "he is a good looking kid, empty suit for sure, but was smart enough to marry a bright woman, so we shall see."

The stroke of genius that got him elected the first time was his "care not cash" platform which was the brain child of his campaign manager, Alex Tourk. That stroke of genius launched his political career and was repaid when Gavin had an affair with Alex's wife.

On the care not cash plan, general assistance payments were largely eliminated (generally a good thing given where a lot of the cash went shortly after receipt), but homeless programs, while greatly expanded from a management perspective rendered little in direct care to the most needy among the homeless. A very large bureaucracy was built and when we left the budget for homeless programs for the 49 square miles that is the City and County of San Francisco hovered around $275M per year. The actual care received by the most needy? Basically bupkis.

All of that is just to introduce you to Governor Newsom, a man who has designs on the White House. Lucky right?

In retrospect, I gave money to the wrong guy, because even though I am sure his polices would have not resonated with me politically, at least I would have given money to the guy with the higher IQ, by I am guessing, call it 50 points. :(

It looks like you made the right move and went to Idaho. I hope to be right behind you as soon as I retire.

I am guessing that the next move will be ban the sale of replacement parts for non electric vehicles. We have that 2035 deadline here in NY also but my Ranger will still be on the road even if it means relocating,

Eventually the malaise will overtake Idaho with all the migration from the golden state , this has already occurred in Colorado, who is adopting the Cali carb standards and shuttering clean burning coal plants, in about 3 yrs CO will also ban ice auto sales, my perilous prediction.

This will sound rude and I do not mean to offend others. However, it is difficult for me to feel bad for California. For decades California has been off the rails in terms of politics and finances. Folks that live, work, and vote in California are getting the fruits of what has been planted. I know many people do not like and did not want or support the things happening in California. That is fine, I understand. But, do not leave California and go to other states and bring the same flawed ways and issues with you. Things that are happening in California and now other states as well do not even seem to be things that could be true in the United States. I cannot speak for others but I can say Texas has had more than enough of influx and is starting to suffer with the same problems the west coast has. I expect Texas to be in bad shape ten years from now. Do not know where I would flee too lol. As far as forced EV goes I will not risk a comment, I like the folks here too much.

Hi Mark,

I am a Kalifornia native. Been here 70+ years.
This used to be a wonderful state. Although not the past 30 years.
It will not be getting better anytime soon.
For me to leave, as I truly want, it means my wife will stay and I purchase another home to live elsewhere.
She is also a native and won't leave. Not an easy thing to do.

But I will not be bringing any ridiculous CA ideas to damage my new home state of choice.
Not all of us here agree with what gets turned into law, restrictions, taxes and infringements on our 2nd amendment rights.
