Trying to push people into EV's....then when 25% of the population is in EV's they'll realize they just lost 25% of their gas tax revenue........then they'll create an EV charging tax.
The .gov is already testing a pilot program to tax by the mile for EV. They realized they were losing revenue on gas and needed to get it somewhere. What will be fun is when they decide that all vehicle registrations will be charged based on mileage driven and we get charged at the pump and the DMV.

Well California's electrical grid struggles with all of the AC units, so surely adding millions of EVs won't make it worse right?

I was stationed in San Diego 25 years ago an it was a beautiful place. I always say California is a great place to live if you're a multimillionaire. It's not worth it to me. I was stationed in Hawaii too. It was a great place to live for a few years but too far from the family an too expensive. Being in the Navy helped me avoid a lot of the costs of California by keeping my truck registered in Florida an keeping my Florida insurance for the 2 years I was there. Both would have been 4 times as much in Ca. This also kept me from paying state income tax.
Some of your military pay is allowances based on where you're stationed which helps offset the costs too.

Wages are higher in nearly every field, so it does offset the price somewhat
I don't think it's anywhere near enough to offset the higher housing cost then factor in the highest taxes in the country.

Many of the west coast states have looked into tax per mile. watch out. My ranger tag is around $55 in Ohio. They recently started charging hybrids $125 a year an all EV's $250. Driving 12K a year at 20 mpg an $.38 a gal gas tax puts me at around $225 a year in gas tax.

You know the water situation is really bad when they start finding bodies in barrels at the bottom of Lake Mead

As if they aren't high enough already, our wonderful government here is raising gas taxes due to "inflation"- from 51 cents per gallon, to 54. Just another advantage of living in California (sarcasm meant). Don't mean to be political here, just informative to other Californians.
One of the many reasons I packed up my family in 2019 and left that hell hole. I’ve never looked back once for anything.

Let me see if I have the right. Gas prices have risen because of inflation, and Gavin Newsome raises the tax on gas because of the inflation that caused the price of gas to rise. Makes perfect since if you're a politician. Ummmmm, politicians......Dayum.........

"Politician", from the Greek words "Poli" meaning blood sucking, and "tician" meaning parasite.

I was born and raised in CA. I have lived a lot of places around the globe and I just don't think there is a better place to live from the standpoint of geography and climate than CA.

We lived most of our adult years in San Francisco. We lived very near Lands End and walked that park all the time with the dogs.

One day I was walking the trail with the dogs and a young man in a suit with his tie removed was standing on a rock next to the trail looking out on the panorama of the Golden Gate. He was talking on the phone (sounded like he was talking to his wife/girlfriend) and he said, "Today? Today the weather here is better than the weather has ever been there!". It sounded like he was lobbying for a move. ;)

I understand why it costs so much to live in CA. Anytime you have something most people are going to love, the price will always keep climbing.

We didn't move to Idaho because of cost of living or politics, we mainly wanted a slower pace of life. The fact that it costs a lot less to live here, have a lot more room between ourselves and our neighbors, have a government that seems bent on making its residents happy and we are closer to what we like to do for recreation, are all clear bonuses for us.

On the other hand, it is a lot harder to talk our daughter into coming to visit us, versus when we were in the city, which has its good and bad points. ;)

Couldn't have said it better myself. Weather is an important factor to happiness in my life. Wages are higher in nearly every field, so it does offset the price somewhat, but yes. It requires a bit more hustle and mental stability to live in this state.

P.S. @dano42 do you have a SuperCab or CrewCab Ranger?
Crew cab.

Ya get what ya vote for.
Actually, many Californians did not vote for the people in office today. Frustration continues...

Note: San Francisco and LA run the state, not me. I have to say though, in the winter when it’s 70°, and in the summer, when it’s 70°, and I can sit on my back deck and not get too hot or too cold, that’s nice. We certainly pay the price for it though. Paid $6.75 a gallon yesterday to fill up.
I see you are from the central coast. I have a brother in Cambria and he loves it.
