I mean he sounds like a straight up honest fellow, but if I ran a business my product would be the responsibility of the end user. His approach is unique as every other similar product company warns the customer if a product will pass emissions or is EPA rubber stamped.

I just don't get why he is acting on behalf of the government of CA and refusing resident's there business with his product.

I understand companies won't send 11+ capacity gun magazines there, but that is because mere possession is illegal. That is different then sending a non EPA compliant car part. Use of it may be illegal, but no possession.

Or am I missing something obvious?

Having lived in and left CA long time ago, it’s just not the emissions part, but that states pursuit of fuel economy that gets aftermarket parts companies in trouble. in 2017 the state went after JEGS for 1.7 million ($250 for each part sold). Complete BS, but my guess is unleashed wants no part of any civil issues w/ CA, win or lose its $$$. What we look at as tuning/modifying CA look at as tampering.

“The California Air Resources Board, or CARB, said in a release that the penalty to be paid by the Columbus, Ohio-based nationwide online retailer is the largest in the agency's history involving aftermarket parts.
“Our tough air quality laws exist to protect public health, and those who flout these rules can expect to be caught and pay a steep price.

After a complaint from the public, an investigation by CARB found that from 2011 to 2014, JEGS advertised and sold (in California) modified aftermarket performance parts such as engine programmers and air intake systems. Many of the modified products reduce fuel economy and increase emissions, the agency said.”

A lot of auto aftermarket companies won't ship to Kommiefornia. I'm active on a Harley forum an guys there are driving to Az to buy exhaust stuff. I guess the "legal for off road use only" disclaimer isn't working any longer. Now they have to go get it or ship it to a friend in another state an have them ship to Ca. Probably afraid of litigation.

...hence the legal disclaimer when you initiate the SCT/BDX programmer that it isn't legal for use in the state of California. Torrie straight up refuses to mess with any parameters that voids the emissions.

We are working on an E50 tune right now. Just logging the base, but I want to say that fears of bad mileage with E mixes might be over exaggerated if what I am seeing holds up. The tune is smooth and torquey so far for a base tune. I do not think it is better than my 93 at WOT yet, but we will see after the initial logs and revision.

The E50 progress is going well. As a side note about fuel mileage with Ethanol mixes, I have been of course doing a few WOT pulls a day to log as well as normal driving to work, etc. Even with the logging I am averaging 23mpg (figured using a calculator and not the truck's display). On a normal day (I am still a pretty aggressive driver) I should be 25+mpg (I'd hazard more like 26-27mpg) depending on how I drive after getting the tune sorted. At least for an E50-E30 mix, mileage will not suffer in my experience. E85 here is a little over a dollar less than premium (which I mix with the E85 to get E50).

BTW, that is a savings on average of $10 per full tank (18.8 gallon tank) mixing premium and 93 over just straight 93. Plus you have a significant increase in power. Now, will I run it all the time? Probably not, but in better weather where E85 percentages are usually always consistent, yes. Just make sure you buy a tester and test occasionally.

Sunday confession; I was out on the edge of town, stopped at a light. Fellow in a big red Ram pulls up next to me - pretty truck. He'd spent some money on rims and tires - and an exhaust system at least. I'm anxious to get back to the farm before weather comes in and leave quickly at the green. Red Ram must think it's a challenge, starts pulling hard judging by the exhaust.

All I saw of him was his chrome grill in my side mirror ?.

Glancing back at the speedo I 'realized' we were a bit over the limit for that bit of road, and with intersections approaching I lifted.

These Rangers - with minor mods and tune are quick little trucks.

Street racing is really irresponsible and not something I condone (I'm so ashamed) but with the speed governor raised on mine I can walk away from pretty much anything in traffic.

If I ever 'need' to. That's one reason I'm switching to H rated tires ?.

As many of you know I worked with Torrie at Unleashed on getting the shift strategy better sorted in Normal mode to keep the truck from jumping into too high a gear, lugging, etc. Torrie listened to my suggestions and turned normal mode into sort of a Sport lite that will not have you lugging around in 10 gear all the time. I know some of you with Unleased tunes contacted Torrie about using this strategy and were very pleased.

Well I want you to know that I made more suggestions based on my new daily drive to help Normal downshift better to keep rpms up. Again think of a Sport lite. I loaded it yesterday and tried it today. VERY NICE. Like Sport, Normal now keeps the rpm up a little to prevent lugging onw deceleration/downshifting. It is around 500rpm less than Sport or one gear higher, so not as aggressive as Sport which can often be too much on a commute, but really helps with the frustration of always having to apply too much throttle to downshift because it wants to hang in too high of a gear.

I suggest you contact Torrie and give it a try.

So what happens when you put it in S mode now? And how is your MPG?

Sport is still Sport and is very nice for more agressive driving. This just affects Normal. Too early to check mileage, but honestly with less chance to lug I expect it to be better.

I just had Torrie send me the update file! Looking forward to giving it a drive. I’ll get it loaded up tomorrow. Too cold right now!
Is this a stand alone transmission remapping?

It’s a new file you have to download/upload to the truck but it’s my understanding that it only effect the transmission. No performance changes.

Well my modifications would be different than yours, so you would want the transmission tuning added to your specific engine tune. It would not be a direct 1 to 1 transfer.
