Keep your stock lug nuts, but change the color w/o paint (or PlastiDip!)

Mike,

Those definitely look better than silver. My Passat has something similar from the factory but they’re more of a dust cover and simply there to hide the lug bolts. There’s a special tool for removal that I keep in the glove box. Easy on, easy off. No issues and it looks way better with them on.

I checked out the link to the site and these appear to be very straight forward. Simple but effective.

Seems like you might want to remove these when you visit your dealership. They just might damage them while removing them with brake tools or they might not bother to re-install them.

I would worry about trapped moisture, but maybe it's a non issue.

Agreed: re cosmetic mods. Mocking the look while sporting a lifted or leveled truck with extra ranger stickers is humorous. I'm not big on the cosmetic only mods, but don't mock others - just secretly judge the mall crawlers.

My concern would just be the stock nut failure. Damn this forum. Just spent another $25.

Damn - and I wasn't even trying to be controversial!
If I end up keeping these, my plan was to remove them when going for tire servicing. Hell 20% of the time they forget to give me my wheel lock socket back, with 24 parts to lose I would not trust the tire guys!
To some other comments
I have not seen or heard of a lot of things, but based on that doesn't make whatever it is a stupid or bad idea.
Remember ignorance is curable, stupidity is not! ?
If the brakes transmit enough heat to melt these - I take them off. Hell you cant get any coating to stick to lug nuts (as has been pointed out) so removing even baked on vinyl should not be a problem and will cause no long term ill affects. Maybe if they were just bare carbon steel!
If some fall off, well let me think.... Got it! I will just remove the rest.
Concerns over how, I don't know what the point was, "dangerous" these covers could be. REALLY? As opposed to buying aftermarket with possibly incorrect geometry or no steel traceability? To hold you're wheels on!? Ask any of the aftermarket lug manufactures for their Steel certs, hopefully there are a few out here that would. But I am betting most of these are made in China where quality of raw materials is not of high concern vs price.

EDIT - Ok I have cured my ignorance! Having not investigated Fords swollen lug-nuts(my bad). I now understand the risk! I assumed the cap was chromed steel, not ALUMINUM!!!! What Mechanical engineer worth his degree combines steel and aluminum in an corrosive environment is beyond me! So with that in mind adding a cap on top of these, plus add in a little salty water via capillary action, you have accelerated Ford Swollen Nut Syndrome - FSNS (this needs an emoji!).
Based on this I will not use these and will not recommend them - I will now go edit my original post.
And sorry to the commenters I doubted!
But I still have concerns about aftermarket and Chinese Steel, I guess I will stick to McGard or DP-Accessories

One funny thing a reviewer mentioned about these is they act like anti-theft devices - well, slow-theft devices! Since we dont get a wheel lock kit from Ford....

Anyway I appreciate all the inputs - good and bad!
Enjoy YOUR truck, YOUR way! mine is mine....

It's Amazon, you can't just look at the star rating. If you read through the real reviews and look at the pictures posted there are an alarming amount of people who's lug nuts have broken into pieces the first year of use.

I have made EDITS- you can read in 1st post and above.
But y'all are right - DONT USE THESE!
I think I am going to get DP-Accessories Black Nuts, cant justify McGard at 2x the cost.

I trust you Phil and I ordered these today thank you.
The reviews are not great. Lots of buyers who have had them literally break into two pieces. I was going to grab them too until I started reading reviews and looking at the photos. Back to the drawing board.

Thanks. I will cancel my order too. Let me know if you come up with anything. I can't believe I didn't read those reviews first!

My truck is finally being built as we speak so I'll probably wait until it's here and then take it to the local hot rod and truck shop to find something but I'll post what I end up with.

Having just switched to Magnetic wheels I was looking to change to black nuts. Before shelling out lots of $$ I decided to try Colorlugs a try. Basically a vinyl cap, I know, I know...
They recommended 1 inch long, which is way too big. I am sending those back and getting the 1/2 long version.
Some pics with and without - you get the idea, but also see that they stick out too far.
I will post new ones when the shorter version arrives, gotta luv Amazon free returns!
Oh and these do come in other colors besides black, for those so inclined....

Does Ford sell solid chrome or black lug nuts? I don’t trust the quality of anything from Asia.

I am with you on the China issue- BUT what Ford sells is pretty crappy. Basically they have made each lug-nut a battery or Galvanic Cell, which accelerates corrosion.
I would assume if you live in the North this issue is worse, with salted roads in the winter.

Mid-Atlantic state so salt etc is an issue.
