On board Air setup on your Ranger

Well it took me a little bit but i finally have onboard air on the truck!! How did I do it? Well I got the Ford Performance portable kit, remobed it from the case and mounted it to the bed. At the same time I added the Access Tonnosport tonneau cover to morr or less hide it!! Herr is my setup!!

Just so some of you have an idea it takes me 5 minutes to air up all 4 from 20 psi to 30 psi with the ARB single compressor. Think that is a long time? Well my compressor that is in the Harbor Freight jump pack would take 45 minutes from 24 psi to 30 psi so I think it is worth it!!!

This compressor is straight out of the Ford Performance Kit. I simply removed it out of the box it came in and mounted it to the bed as you see. I had to buy about an extra twelve feet of wire if I remember correctly to hook it straight to the battery

Mike I have the Viar 88P in the link below. Been using it for almost 2 years now and works great. It takes maybe 2-3 minutes per tire going from 18-32 psi. I like it because it's small and portable and it connects to your battery so it's a lot quicker than a cigarette lighter plug in. What's nice too is you can take in with you in different vehicles if needed.

I know the Ford Performance(ARB) compressor is portable as well. I'm kinda suprized about it taking thay long to air up each tire. Do you have 33's? Better yet I think you have the Destination XT'S correct? More volume to fill with a bigger range like such will do that.

No I have 32's Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I'm actually just guessing on the time but I know it doesn't take all that long. I got mine for $50.00 so for the money I'll wait a couple extra minutes. lol

Hi, just want to start a thread about onboard air and also to see other members setups.
I also wanted to share where I put mine and why I went with the ARB twin compressor.
It was abit of a pain trying to run wiring from battery to bed...but it’s all worth it in the end.
Some of you guys already know, I modded one of the factory swing out tool box to hold my ARB compressor.

Anyway, I’ve been lucky with ARB twin compressor in the past with my Jeeps, that’s why I chose to install it in the Ranger. Aside from airing up, I also like the versatility to be able to run air tools (135 up to 150 psi per ARB) when needed.
During a test I was surprised how quickly the Aircat/ ARB combo took a lug nut off with ease.

So please, If you have different locations or ideas for onboard air, you can share them here.
I know under the hood behind the drivers side headlight, there’s a small area that can prob fit a small compressor, but I couldn’t use it cause the ARB twin is huge. LoL.

I looked at the ARB and I might still get the onboard one for my Bronco. I just have a hard time justifying spending $350+ when the Viair works really good. It might take me 12-15 minutes max to air them all back up. If I was waiting 30 minutes or more for it to cool off and recycle I would defiantly go a different route.

I wont argue that the ARB compressor gets hot but then again it is a small air cooled compressor that is rated to fill a 37 inch tire in 2 minutes from 0 psi. Does mine get hot afyer airing up all 4? Yes it does but it is mounted where it gets enough air circulation to cool off in a fair amount of time!!

I removed the compressor from the Ford Performance ARB compressor kit, fabricated a bracket and mounted it in front of the battery. All I had to do was insert a couple rivet nuts, relocate some of the wiring and re-clock the quick connect and pressure transducer.

Could you go into more detail on what you did here? What are the dimensions of the bracket you made and how did you relocate and move pieces on the compressor? This looks ideal. I have the arb single compressor box kit just like you. I would love to run this setup!

The bracket is 8"x3"x1/4" SS flat stock that I bent to fit the small relief in the core support. I used the bracket that the compressor was mounted to as a template to locate where to drill the holes in the SS plate.
I removed the wiring harness so it could be repositioned and so I would have enough length for the pressure transducer leads. I did not add any extra wiring, there was more than enough on the harness.
To re-clock the transducer and the air QC, I simply loosened the bolt at the end of the reservoir and clocked them where I wanted them. This was the easiest part.
