1. No, and no it's free for a few years.
2. Yes, it's more of a major release than just fixing climate controls.

You can start it, maybe complete it, in accessory mode.
I might have misunderstood, but I thought the truck had to be running for the whole event. But you can certainly drive it around, so I did drive a bit while it was in process. I was actually hoping to reset the engine stop timer as much as anything.

Engine idle is just to keep the system awake during update. Running on accessory power usually covers the length of an update before shut down, at least it has for my updates. Others will use a trickle charger for this, though usually that's more for longer map updates. Or as a middle ground, some will start the update in accessory, then kick on the engine to idle part way through. To each his own.

I'm guessing something in there wasn't identical? Was one Nav, other Non-Nav, or 4" vs 8"?
Bingo...He does have the NAV on the Lariat. In addition the file on my USB was for my vin, I forgot about that part. He will need to go to the Ford site, enter his vin and DL the correct file...He is currently running 3.3.

Yes he’ll need the Nav installer download. That’s why it didn’t work. They aren’t VIN linked, rather module type linked.

Just updated to the latest version of Sync 3.4.

The audio display is a bit of a better layout but Ford still likes to use the cheap PowerPoint glow effect on items like the album art and button highlights.

Anyone notice any other changes? I noticed the outside and cab temps did show up after engine cycles.

Already is, my truck grabbed the file from my home wifi network just sitting in my driveway. I didn’t realize it happened until after I got a message at startup the next morning saying update completed. Checked my wifi connections network logs and sure enough it was paired for 45 minutes.

I’m a secure network at home so when I bought the truck I did sync the two using my PW. That’s a onetime handshake.

Mine did it automatically but, in the menu in Sync you can check for updates. If you’re connected to your wifi it will grab and install it.

Thanks ill try it again today
First confirm you’re connected to your wifi network through trucks display. Then go to the system tab and look for updates. That’s it. Does it while the truck is off too! But you might want to at least let it handshake while truck is running.

I tried that a handful of times, keeps saying it up to date. I went on the ford website and I have the older version. im using the Hotspot on my phone since I have a 45-60min drive for work. I'll try again on my way home

I tried the hotspot and it didn’t like if for whatever reason. A direct connect to home wifi was what worked.

Wonder if it'll down load over the wifi that the truck has?

Yes if you signup for the hotspot cell connection from AT&T that will work too. The wifi and home connection works. I know that positivity
