tough getting in the truck bed with tailgate down

I want to get one but wonder how corrosion proof they are. Lots of salt and snow on Minnesota roads. Had something similar on my 2011 F-150. After 6 years, it dumped me on my face when the bolts corroded and snapped off when I stepped out of the box.

The fasteners are off the self, could you replace w/stainless steel? We don't salt the roads here, so I may just full of, you know, brine.

But I love mine.

The unit is powder coated and the actuating mechanism works on nylon bushings. The roads are salted in WY too and half a winter in the unit seems to be holding up very nicely. Time will tell.

OK I have a 3 step little ladder and it's great. It is also useful when washing my truck. I am 6'1" and do need a ladder to reach the roof to wash or the front window.

Biggest issue with this is the space it takes on the tailgate and its in the way if you need to slide something in.

Great around home. Not much use if away some place hauling things.

I find in tough to get in the bed with tailgate down . Have seen add on rear steps which spring in and out . I also thought of putting a grab handle in the rear area of bed . Any ideas on the subject ? It is easy to get in with the tailgate closed . Just wish the bumper extended more on the sides .

First day I got the truck I made an attempt to climb into the bed while parked in the garage and nearly cold cocked myself to unconsciousness on the open garage door above. Things NOT to do.

Think I need one of these bestop treksteps. I am 5'5", but also have abnormally short legs for my height. I am in good shape, but being short with short legs makes it hard to get in the bed.

Now you've done it,you brought up the forbidden tailgate damper! Lol. Honestly I don't see why some are having such an issue getting into the bed unless you have bad knees. Lower the tailgate,and either kneel on it and push up to get in or sit on it and swing yourself around? Heck I'm 5'7 on a good day and have never had and trouble getting into my F150's which were much taller than the Ranger. I'm in/out of the bed at least 12 times a week and never gave this a thought until seeing this thread. I have used the rear tire on my F150's but have never given it a thought because the Ranger is so much lower. Maybe just get one of those fold up Rubbermaid steps and keep in the bed?

Well, having about 54 static line jumps, and arthritis of the spine and one really bad knee and getting real close to the 50 mark, well, getting in and out if the new Ranger bed is quite a task. I use a small step stool.
