and I only bought life insurance once when I was 1st married, from a friend who sold insurance, but cancelled the policy after 3 months of payments -

back then vacations and money for booze took precedence.
o_O You mean it still doesn't? No one told me. ?

My blend door assy had to be replaced and had no noises from behind the dash.
Interesting as you have a 2023 Ranger.
Did your entire dash have to be removed, or were they able to repair this more easily?
What was your symptom?

My 2021 Ranger is starting to click on the passenger HVAC side, though the HVAC still works fine. I haven't found many on this forum with these issues beyond mid-2020 when the heater box assy was revised.

Just because it clicks / pops does not necessarily mean it’s the blend door itself.
Might be the actuator, on the passenger side fairly easy access, but note you have the passenger temp door and air inlet door on the passenger side.
The air inlet is the Recirculation door.
You can view positions of the actuators with a high end scanner or use manual mode and drive the temperature door full cycle, if it pops -pull actuator and manually move the door and check for binding, if no binding replace the actuator.

I had that happen in the 2019 I had. Haven't had any problems with the 2023.

Thanks for the reply. I think I am on the same page as you.
My 2021 should have the newer heater box, I don't think the blend door is binding. I think it is just the crap actuators. I removed the glove box and the clicking is dead on where the passenger actuator is (see pic - note the three colored wires are for an aux light switch I have).

Now, do I wait until failure to have the dealer do it, or just replace it myself? I would need to remove more trim or something to have better access.

I'm assuming my dealer won't do anything with it just clicking, when the HVAC temps work ok. Having to wait for a failure is annoying.

Thanks again @airline tech, your info on this forum is fantastic.

Had my actuator replaced end of April, they did it for $300, 6 months later it's dead again. See what happens this time. I'm sure they didn't replace the box as they said my early 2019 wasn't included in the tsb!

My 2019 had the box/blend gate/actuator all replaced and the repair was nearly $4k. If that $300 fix had worked long term then that’d have been a steal. Bummer it didn’t work out.

Went back to the dealer today, diagnosed it($100 for that) said actuator is fine, now its the control arm that is shot, not covered, because it is a different piece than what was replaced. say its the upper plenum that needs to be replaced, because the control arm is bad. now they want $2000 to fix it....

Just tonite being 33* I had the heat on, during my long trip home, got to be a bit much so I turned it off and heard a cracking like plastic grinding hard to put in words, I immediately lowered the radio pressed the button back on (single zone) heard a lesser sound, off again the louder cracking sound.
I’m only getting cool air and thru the defrost only no matter if I chose dash vents or lower foot well.
Also sounds like the sound is coming from two distinct places one from the right footwell under glove box and the other from the lower portion of the center stack.
I guess I’m off to see the wizard and test out my Flood Ford ESP warranty. Not good timing to have no heat/ defrost with winter rolling in here in the north east.

Please report how much hassle you get from them to cover it, HOPEFULLY - NONE.
This issue along with the Tranny are the main reasons I just bought the plan.
If you are lucky, it is just the actuator and not the whole assembly.

Yes will do, just made the service appt for Dec 11 the soonest they had. I also saw a posting here that a member went in behind the glovebox and manually moved a part 90* to get the door oriented to get heat, im going to try that, also I’m fortunate I have other vehicles at my disposal if the Ranger has to stay idle.

Question: Is my problem with the truck or the dealer?
I have a 2019 Lariat, dual zone system. When you are on a long drive, the a/c blows cold on the drivers side, and warm to hot on the passenger side with the temp the same on both sides. I have caught a lot of grief from my wife, who rides in the passenger seat.
I have taken it to the dealer twice. Have been told twice, that there is nothing wrong with the system. They have charged me twice for " Diagnostics", and once to reprogram the system. I took it in once while it was acting up, and showed it to the service writer. When taken to the technician he said there is nothing wrong with it. The blend doors have only acted up once, when I shut off the truck, the blend doors clicked until the body module went to sleep. Does this sound like the problem that others have had, or am I full of it, and need to let it go. I have the Ford extended warranty. It has not paid for any of this.

I think both are issues. The heater box is most likely warped and your dealer seems useless.

concur. if both sides are set to, say 71 degrees, and one side is blasting heat and the other cold then there's clearly a problem. it's new dealer time.
