Why is payload on sticker different than Ford website spec?

My door sticker says 1778 lb (XLT 4x2, supercab, 302A, FX2, tow package), but Ford's website here for XLT says UP TO 1905 lb for 4x2 supercab.

FX2 doesn't come with a skid plate (so no weight) and the locker can't be 120 lb :p

Why is it 120 lb lower than the max 1905?
Is it the tow package, eg the hitch, or something else?

Guesst it's based on stock XL and no extras like running boards etc... Nicer seats, power seats from 302, heated all adds weight and lowers total payload capacity

The "up to" means just that. Every vehicle from the factory will have different options that may or may not add additional weight. Due to the additional weight your capacity is lowered from the factory. Now mind you there are some aftermarket manufacturers that claim a gross vehicle weight increase but they only chnage the suspension and not the brakea. Due to this you must be careful not to go over gross vehicle weight or problems will most likely occur

The above chart was XLT (I edited to add a note to clarify), and I don't have running boards etc.
I would be surprised if power seats and such added 120 lb... But you may be right, even though I don't see these things adding up at the moment -- except perhaps the hitch.

That makes sense and agreed. I'm just trying to figure out what that weight difference is due to :)

I m working on a flooring project at my house and am going to pick up a pallet of vinyl flooring planks there are 52 boxes shrinked wrapped on the pallet each box weighs 43.44LBS = 2,258 LBS.
I need 2 pallets so i was hoping to make only two pickups, so from my door jam sticker it says,
'Rear GAWR 3370 LBS. Am i looking at the correct # ? I'm confused the # posted above shows 1696 LBS payload.
TIA for those who have experience hauling heavy stuff lol.

You should be looking at your payload. That is the total weight you can add to your truck after you drove it off the lot. Subtract the weight of the driver and passengers, and all the stuff you cart around.

For your load, don’t forget to add the weight of the pallet.
I would say you are making four trips if you go by your numbers. Could really do it in 3. You are going to feel it back there.

Hmmm, if I did 34 boxes X 3 trips that would be about 1500 lbs, maybe i should consider renting a small Penske moving type truck and do both pallets in one trip, gotta think this one out.
Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

I picked up the vinyl flooring in 3 trips, 32 cases each trip @ 43.44lbs plus wooden pallet, so approx 1,420 lbs. Door jam says 1,696lbs so i was at about max payload(including me).
I definitely felt it but did not feel unsafe, I didn't realize it was on the bump stops till i got under and looked and took pics and i guess that's why i felt that bottom out feel when going over low points/dips on the highway.
It pulled amazingly getting on highway from the on ramp (i didn't push it to hard) and at one point i looked at the speedo @80 (wow) riding very nice i then backed down to 70, as for stopping it was ok, braking earlier and a little more pressure, it looks level now haha, so overall it handled it very well.
