I try and wait to fill up until my arm and leg have grown back, although I am at the pumps a lot more with this truck than my old Volt I can tell you that much. I usually fill up between 1/4 and empty, unless there is a deal close by. Usually Costco, but always top tier premium.
Do you alternate the arms and legs or always the same ones ? OCD would require me to go " left arm, right leg , then visa versa , never both from the same side though ...

I let mine go down to the 50 mile warning usually. The reason being is that silt can build up in the tank by not getting run out through the filter to the engine.
Imagine a glass of orange juice and you keep refilling the glass when it gets half empty. The pulp from the previous full glass stays at the bottom and each glass fill after that keeps adding more and more pulp.
It's an extreme example to make my point.
I just shake the hell out of my OJ...

Yep. Rotation is key to ensure even regeneration. Although I was a little stumpy when prices first took a jump...

Lol What's to close? Coasting into the gas station on fumes. ?
Well when I filled it up when it said 2 miles left I still had over a gallon and a half in the tank. Like I said there are a ton of gas stations around me, I don’t see any need to fill it up earlier. Usually fill it up when there’s over 2-3 gallons left in the tank. I’d hardly call that fumes.

Then somethings definitely wrong with yours if it's showing 2 miles left and when you fill up there's 1 1/2 gals left. That should be reading around 30 miles left. One the rare times I've filled up when the light comes on (50 miles left) I have about 2 gals left in the tank and may others have said the same.

1/2 tank unless it’s a really busy week then when the light comes on.

My Ex used to wait till it was on empty, with the digital gauge reading 0 before looking for a gas station.

She once ran out of fuel on top of a two lane bridge with no shoulder. She essentially blocked one way traffic between two counties for over an hour as the only other bridge was an hour and a half north of that point.

Even still I am sure she is still running it on fumes…

hmm interesting. I have no issues with it. Also every single other vehicle I've ever driven that showed miles left on the dash baked in some cushion and when it was at 0 miles left/empty there'd still be at least a gallon left in the tank.

Unless I am on the road, my fill ups usually coincide with a visit to Costco. That usually means a little less than half tank, but can be a lot less in the tank if it has been a while.

On a road trip, fill-ups are usually governed by how full our internal tanks are rather than how much gasoline we have in the truck's tank.

Just an aside, I drove by the station closest to our house the other day and saw diesel priced at $.85 a gallon more than regular gasoline. I wonder what those good old boys driving those 1T Powerstrokes are feeling right now. Holy smokes.

Diesel here has really shot up over the past 10 days. It was just $4.65 and now it's $5.49 and climbing every day. Can't wait to see how much food and everything else goes up now. :curse:

I had an 06 Escape company commuter, which I ran beyond zero quite often. It had a small tank (260km from full) and my commute was 120km return.

I hit 70km a few times without running out, but once it died at 61km passed zero. I always had a Jerry can in the back, so I was never stuck. I had it from 2015-2019 without fuel pump problems.

Hope you made it clear to her that is the reason she's an x... her hands would get dirty ? Fill up the truck on your way over to do me , wash your hands, then fix me a sandwich... (I talk a good game , but that's about it )
Stuff like this always reminds me of Key and Peele -

And, I just found the sequel to that one....

I know this has been brought up in other mpg threads but I don't think we've ever had one dedicated to this. I usually fill up when a 1/4 tank is left but with gas being so high now I've been filling up right around the 1/2 way mark. It's just a little less painful even though you're spending the same amount in the end. I had an ex who'd run it down to fumes!

So are you conservative and fill up early or adventurous and live on the edge??

I usually fill it up around 1/2, at Vons or Costco cause it's the cheapest here in SoCal PLUS I'm cursing all the through the process.

Or even the folks that got diesel Colorados! I had a guy bragging to me that he got 30mpg last tank in his Colorado, and I had to bring him back to reality because gas is 4.40 and diesel is 6.40! At the 26mpg I got in my ranger last tank I'm still ahead! This is on winding 55mph Maine roads, 100miles in on this tank and I am averaging over 27mph on the dash. Even the 40mpg diesel VW folks are starting to get into Subaru like economy numbers.
