i normally get fuel when im at 1/8 or so. got the 5g down to 3 miles left on the dash once, but had extra fuel with me. years back i ran a case tractor with the cummins b engine out of fuel. mechanical pumps... it eventually did crank back up but that very same day i went and bought a jerry can to make damn sure i always had extra fuel in whatever i owned. about a week later my hands recovered from pushing the primer and purging air for hours lol.

I know this has been brought up in other mpg threads but I don't think we've ever had one dedicated to this. I usually fill up when a 1/4 tank is left but with gas being so high now I've been filling up right around the 1/2 way mark. It's just a little less painful even though you're spending the same amount in the end. I had an ex who'd run it down to fumes!

So are you conservative and fill up early or adventurous and live on the edge??

Never below a 1/4 tank. But, I usually fill up at Costco on Sunday mornings to avoid the long lines.

I just plan it out. Today I had 16 til empty according to the truck. I knew I'd need to fill up on my way home from work. I fill up if I won't be able to make it where I'm going. I won't risk running pout of gas though. I knew 16 or so would be safe on my way to work this morning. .
This is me.

I fill up when I need gas, when my range is less than my trip. Ends up about a tank every 6 days.

My wife's car needs gas everytime we're gonna take it somewhere and it drives me nuts. She drives maybe 250 miles every couple of weeks, while between work and the Ranger I'm filling up 6 times a week. Yet every single time I hop in her car the trip exceeds the range.

I just take it below the halfway mark and then start looking to fill it up as long as there is a station along the way to somewhere that I am going anyway. If it gets below one-fourth, then I make it a priority to fill up first before going about my business.

Hope you made it clear to her that is the reason she's an x... her hands would get dirty ? Fill up the truck on your way over to do me , wash your hands, then fix me a sandwich... (I talk a good game , but that's about it )
lol There's many reasons (that I can't say here :lipssealed:) worse than that why she's an ex.

then fix me a sandwich.
I even tried that using a higher power. :bandit:

If I did that I’d be filling up every 175 miles ???
I'm with you. Mine doesn't do that well with MPG's either. I average around 18 on the cluster. If I do the math on my trusty phone calculator I'm around 17. Funny, my supercharged GT Mustang gets around the same. Actually my Mustang does better MPG's on the highway than my Ranger. LOL

I try and wait to fill up until my arm and leg have grown back, although I am at the pumps a lot more with this truck than my old Volt I can tell you that much. I usually fill up between 1/4 and empty, unless there is a deal close by. Usually Costco, but always top tier premium.

I let mine go down to the 50 mile warning usually. The reason being is that silt can build up in the tank by not getting run out through the filter to the engine.
Imagine a glass of orange juice and you keep refilling the glass when it gets half empty. The pulp from the previous full glass stays at the bottom and each glass fill after that keeps adding more and more pulp.
It's an extreme example to make my point.
