Tightest I ever got was coasting into the gas station in my 2G Escape with 2km (about 1.25 miles) worth of fuel left.

My sister discovered this weekend that when these new cars say zero fuel left, they aren't kidding. She ran out of gas less than a km (maybe a half-mile) away from the house and about 350m (380yds) past the gas station she had just ignored.

These were all dead ash trees (ash borer) except for one tall cedar that didn’t make it through a recent storm. It was only being held up by other trees and had to go. It was very interesting to watch these guys work since they couldn’t get their big bucket truck in and had to climb and top most of the trees before they could drop them. There is a gulley with a creek beside the cottage, which created additional challenges so there really is a lot to it - very impressed with the skill these folks have.
And people wonder why it is so expensive to take down a tree. Not like timber in the woods & let it fall

So true Larry. It takes very skilled workers with expensive hands-on tools.

I would estimate those arborists were each wearing about $2,000 to $3,000 in specialized workwear, climbing spikes, protective gear, as well as ropes, pulleys, snatch blocks, carabiners, etc. The proper pants alone cost $500-$800 and their saws are north of $1,500. Throw in the risks that go with the job and I’m sure they command a decent wage.

Not to mention the very specialized heavy equipment - chippers, bucket trucks, skidders, protective mats. Some of those trucks might even require an air brake endorsement.

After watching these guys today, I’m happy to pay them what they’re worth. 👷‍♂️

I went to the bank, gas station and the grocery store this afternoon. Hauled the trash off after all of that.

Then I drove out Lake Bois D Arc just because, eh why not.

I'm currently unemployed on my terms. After having worked at Tyson for 17 years. That was 8 years the first time I worked there, and 9 years at the end of the second time that I worked there. I decided that it was time for something closer to the house. I'll find something else hopefully here before to long.

Enjoy your time off Clay! Sometimes it's good to take a break and regroup and/or change careers to recharge yourself. I stayed in the same field for 42 years and while I hated it at times the money was great and I met some very nice and interesting people along the way.

Once I sold the business and moved to Arizona back in 2016 I took a few months off, started another business here (same field) and I was much happier. You need that sometimes because life goes by fast and you (everyone) needs to take time to enjoy it! Good luck!

Your timing is nice - who doesn’t like summer?

Good luck when the time comes to start looking again. In the meantime, enjoy the summer and relaxing by the lake.

I got an estimate to have a tree removed from my back yard (and its at the top my "todo" list) and it was about $2200 which wasn't bad. They were the only ones that had a lift skinny enough to get through my gate, and they had really good reviews. Not sure what kind of tree it is, but I have to walk the yard before I mow EVERY DAMN TIME to pick up branches, and it's never just one or two, always a truck full. Plus, last June we got a real bad storm and that was the first time in the 20+ years in the house I was scared the tree would fall over on mine or one of the neighbors house. I decide right then it needed to come down at some point.
