Drove to the forest and checked on the black walnuts.
Two are still alive from the original 25 planted, and looks to me that these two are survivors. There may still be some weaklings in the midst of all the grass and bushes, but most likely not.
Now at 4 years, they're about 1.7 meters (5.5 feet) and looking like little trees.
One chestnut is still alive, but it seems to die off to the ground in each winter and just sprouts some leaves just above the ground. But you'll never know if someday..
