So I know this is a fairly old thread but there is a TSB out now TSB 22-2392 for Broncos where ford is telling us to to warranty failed alternators for water/mud intrusion and install a cover. After looking at the parts catalog, the mounting and overall shape of the the 2.3 ranger and 2.3 bronco alternators look the similar I went a head and ordered one of the covers to try and see if it will fit. If not I will just return. The part number is MB3Z-10317-K for the shield

I've taken my truck down some very sketchy and muddy ATV trails, that include fairly deep fords, for 4 years now and I have never had an issue with the alternator. I'm not hitting mud holes and creek crossings at 50 MPH or anything, but the truck definitely gets muddy. This is 3-4 days a month and more like 3-4 days a week during deer season (SEP-DEC here).

I’m interested to see where this goes. Putting in the added Ford number it’s listed as a SHIELD SPLASH, but a quick search did not yield any pictures, and MSRP is listed just under $50. The search did get me to the Bronco6g site which they did have pictures of the “J” model which is for the 2.7’s alternator.

Not sure how good the cover will be in protecting the alternator from mud/dirty water, but it must be something if Ford is pushing this part in a TSB.

Photos are from Bronco6g.com of the “J” 2.7L cover.

From what I see it should work ( orientation for wiring and such). Might need the two stud type bolts to mount it. Ours use regular bolts to mount alternator. No way to attach shield using existing hardware

Curious if you have to add a drip hole in that recessed area. Otherwise how does water or wet mud egress out?

This is how it mounts to the alternator. Fat arrow points towards ground. “A “ is alternator top mounting bolt hole. “ B” is lower rear alternator mounting bolt hole. Skinny arrow shows direction of drainage towards engine block side. Plastic covers top back half and full back side of alternator. This view is if you were looking at it from front of crank pulley.

I can't address the alternator issue but I wonder if the Ranger's transfer case and differentials have extensions on the breathers to keep water out. If not, you might consider checking for this if you put your Ranger in fairly high water.
Ours do, I'm not sure about yours. If you look at the photo see the three bent over pipes between the throttle body and the fuel filter heat shield. Also the alternator on the 3.2 diesel is up nice and high.

Gotta be a ROTW diesel ranger...

Our alternator on the 2.3 is on the other side and way lower, different setups

Watching… Curious if cover will work too. I have ARB skids but any extra protection can’t hurt. 👍🏻 good find
