Just wanted to point out that if your Auto Stop/Start stops Auto Stop/Starting on its own, it's like the canary in the coal mine for a failing battery.

My A/S/S stopped working and I'd read somewhere on here that it was a symptom of a weak battery.

Sure enough, my battery would only maintain 70% charge so the dealer replaced it.

I'm beginning to think that 2-3 years is all the battery will last on these trucks, so when I have to pony up for my own I'll get one with a 5 year warranty.

My A/S/S is disabled through the nightlight so my first indication was when the intelligent access was working. I went to grab the door handle and nothing on all four of them. Brought it to the dealer and sure enough there was a dead cell, the battery was 20 months old. Now if I let it sit for more than two days I hook it to the battery maintainer.

The heat will also degrade these batteries fast and most I know here are lucky to get 2-3 years at most out of theirs. Costco has Interstate batteries and they do not pro rate them. So most here bring them back before the three years is up and they just replace it for free, no questions asked.

My ass started working for the first time since Oct. Simple solution is let up a little on the brake and it restarts then push the button. No sweating, fretting, no es problemo.

I put the nightlight in the back of the console and have had no problems for 2 years. It's been to the dealer twice for oil changes and they haven't said a thing about it being there. Seems like the easiest solution, since all I have to do to restore the A.S.S. is unplug the light.

And you just disabled the entire Battery Maintenance System (BMS)
^^ This .
I tried this initially and it does work but the battery will be charging at 100% all the time instead of dropping down as it should when it nears full charge . Not the best way to treat the battery in the Ranger .

I used the graphical interface in ForScan which was very simple . No need to go into an "As Built" folder . There are 3 different lines which mention the ASS , I think 2 were in one module and 1 in another . I switched all 3 to off and have had no issues .

I changed the ASS to disable
Disabled the double horn honk when leaving vehicle
Changed the panic mode to double press of the remote button
Enabled fog lights on during high beam
Changed my sync screen to the Ford Performance on startup

Probably forgetting something else but spent $50 and was finished in 15 minutes .

Tow mode is the best way to disable it imo...shifts way better also....
You have to press the tow mode button every time you start up also ;)

I started to use tow mode for driving around town last week to see if my fuel mileage gets better or worse . I've forgot to press the button on a couple trips already though .

Just bite the bullet....no default 'reset'. You fully control Auto Start - Stop function.

I did the same exact set in Forscan.

My understanding is that what we really did to disable ASS is to turn the BMS off. We just did it in software instead of unplugging.

I'd love to know for sure. I'm concerned about my expensive AGM battery. With that said, plenty of people have done it both ways and don't seem to have battery problems.

No the BMS is a separate line in Forscan . No need to touch that . When you unplug at the battery terminal it disables both though

Allows you to keep it active when you want, off when you want. 1 press before you shut truck off. Done.

So if you have to press a button when you shut the truck off, why not just press the button on the console instead(on start-up), and save opening up the dash and spending $80 ?

Gook luck finding a five year warrantied battery. I just went through trying to find one a few months back. Most I found was a Die Hard Gold for three years. Couldn't find any batteries out there with anything more. Please let us know if you do find one. Good luck :like:

Haven't really looked yet but the local Wally World has AGM batteries with a 4 year free replacement warranty.

The one I was thinking of was 3 year replacement with 2 more years prorated.
