Well that is good to hear, I am really hoping they do end up replacing it all once they get it open, it would make no sense to not replace it then from a dealership side and then have me come back with the same issue get another loaner, and all that. I imagine the price of the labor to open it up is 10x more than the price of the drum, so from a financial standpoint it doesnt make sense for Ford corporate side.
If you're under warranty, the dealer isn't going to replace anything unless Ford agrees to pay.
So if Ford says no, the dealer isn't going to do it for free.

Yup I understand that, but dealers do have some pull with ford. I have personally seen dealers eat the cost as well. Them pushing back on ford and also eating some of the cost is one of the reasons I went from a focus with a bad transmission to a ranger with a bad transmission. I’m beginning to think ford can’t make transmissions. 🤦

I just called the dealership to get a better understanding of the replacement parts. The new basket has a coating on it and the valves are a bit different. The CDF drum will be getting replaced with the new version if there are groves in the basket, he told me every time they crack one open there are groves in the basket, so he is thinking mine will have the groves as well. Best case scenario, they find the grooves and basically I get a whole new transmission.

2019 XLT here, had it since Feb 2019. It shifted like shit from the showroom floor, several TCM reflashes later it somewhat behaved with the occasional hard P-R shift. It's now doing it more often (at 83K miles), I'm realizing I should have complained more when it was still under warranty :)

Looks like I can get a new trans for roughly 5K (online price), I am betting just to have the dealer pull it and replace the parts will cost more than that, and I don't know if I'm up for serious transmission internal work :(

They were running in the $2500-$3000 range for the last 4+ months or so. Now they’ve shot back up again. Bummer.
You might try looking for a low mileage used out if a late 2022 or 2023 model with the updated transmission. Seeing some on Car-Part.com. There’s actually one out of a 2023 in Kingsley,Mi with 19K on it for $2900

It would be like playing the stock market. Buy up a dozen of em cheap. When the price goes up sell! Considering they are a wear item they will be tracked like a commodity next to oil price per barrel.

If you have records of issues and taking it to dealers you may have some luck calling ford direct to inquire about how they can help.

Another update, they are not replacing the CDF drum. There was no damage apparently. I guess I wait till it fails, hopefully in warranty?

Also called ford customer care. Basically that transmission will now be under warranty for a full year after I get my truck back. If it does fail out of warranty I will have to call them to request financial assistance and be assigned a case manager who I can talk to.

Ask them to replace it and you’ll pay for the part. Labor shouldn’t be any different

I thought about it but it was already half way put together apparently so probably would have to pay labor. I talked to an independent mechanic who said labor for just doing the CDF is 12 hours.

This is what bothers me about some dealers. They knew you were concerned and even though they weren’t going to pay for it they should have at least offered it for price of the part seeing it was tore down that far anyways. That 12 hours is for any major internal repair, trash can included.

Ah okay makes sense then. And I totally agree with you. And the independent mechanic I talked to does to. He has done a lot over the last year and has never not replaced it. He told me it costs him 500 Canadian to buy that part. So even cheaper for us in the US. I was pretty upfront about wanting that drum replaced but I guess not upfront enough.

I've been getting a shudder when accelerating from 'on ramp speed' up to 'highway speed'. Usually only one or two little ones. Well, last night I got about 20 shudders, engine light blinking, and it continued to shudder even when I backed off the accelerator. It eventually smoothed out and I was fine. This morning going to work....smooth as silk accelerating onto the highway.

The shuddering was a lot different feeling than I used to get when the transmission was simply gear hunting and hesitating every time I left the driveway, at every green light, and pulling away at every stop sign. Somehow all that went away when I changed both diff and transfer case fluids. (I know, I know, it doesn't make any sense to me either)

Check the egr pipe and DPF sensor. There are threads on this forum to show the procedure, reasonably cheap repair.

EDIT: DPF Sensor, not DoG Sensor, Thanks Steve Jobs.
