Hey guys,

My Ranger has been shifting rough the past few weeks so I took it to the dealer today, who said the CDF drum has failed and will be $5600 to replace that or $7,800 for a new transmission. It’s a 2019 with 59,000 miles…. So I miss the warranty by one year. Any advice on what to do ?

I’m thinking I’m just gonna sell the truck as is for a big discount. Can’t afford an $8,000 repair

You'll probably have to sell it for $8,000 less.

You can have your stealership reach out to Ford for you and you might get help that way, also you could reach out to your local transmission shops and see what they charge. I know this is to late but it is very wise these days to get a extended warranty you case in point.

Mine was $6200 out the door. Called ford they covered $4000 or so. I was not happy with the rest but it was tuned and modified. Technician called me and asked me to remove the tune. Never made note of it. He was an actual car guy, not a mechanic. We got along well. Give em a call and call another dealer. See what you can do. Full replacement only, no repair.

What Ford number do you call ? The warranty type part of it or where ? They have a bunch of different numbers listed for different things.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Bite the bullet and replace the trans with new...can be had for around $6K...rebuild won't save you much...with a new trans at least you have everything NEW...selling it as is will cost you more in discount...

Levittown Ford has the 4x4 transmission for $2500 brand new.

10R80 4X4

Benny with @LevittownFordParts.com may be able to help you out a bit too.
This is the way to go if you can get a local transmission shop to install it. You may get them to order one from Levittown, but they will most likely put a parts markup on it.

Buying a new truck may not be the best way to go.

Just had mine replaced at a transmission shop. They charged 1100 for labor while the dealer wanted 2400 for labor. This is the second transmission since I bought it new. It is a 2020, has 74,000 miles. The first transmission was replaced under warranty at a little over 35,000 miles. The second one had a little over 37,000 miles and was at my expense. When it was replaced the second time, the problems were worse than the first one that was in it from the factory.
