I’ve been having transmission issues with the Ranger for a while. Cold start and the truck feels like it goes into neutral for a few seconds then hard shifts. Feels like a sledgehammer hitting the transmission. Even when the transmission is at temp, it hard shifts with start and stop traffic.

I had the truck at the dealership for the past week and the tested it and did a reset of the adaptive learning tables. I just drove it and it’s hard shifting less than a mile from the dealership.

The good news is the service manager and the warranty manager are pushing Ford to speed up the process and get a new transmission. They said from their experience with the 10R80, Ford likes to replace the transmission when it’s under 30k miles. I hope that’s the case but I haven’t read anything about that.

Also they are replacing the hvac blower. It’s very loud at max output and the blower is shaking and rattling.

Are they replacing the tranny with an original OEM 10R80 or with an upgraded 10R80 that will prevent the problems that the original has been plagued with?

That’s what I’m pushing for once we get there.

Good! Ford needs to own up and correct the issues with the tranny properly instead of doing band-aid fixes as a diversion.

Really? Can’t find anything on this forum about it? Type in “new transmission” or “CDF” or “TSB” in the search function.
In all seriousness, you should get taken care of and the new transmission’s are updated

Have we any information about what's 'updated' about them besides the newer CDF drum? And maybe some different shifting logic? Did they go to different clutches or something? A different valve body? What's upgraded?

CDF drum is what’s updated. That was/is the major issue with them. Logic is not in the transmission so it would depend upon if they are flashing a different logic for transmissions with the updated CDF. As for the valve body it’s whatever their latest version is.

Trannys you get have been rebuilt at a place contracted by Ford, they should be up to the latest mods.

2022 LARIAT/TREMOR 501A Package, so basically the top possible build, well except for the many “deleted” things that SHOULD have come with the truck. Things I bought and installed myself. But of course that’s another story. I just turned 7k miles and things like this post scare me to death and have me shaking my head.

No noticeable issues with mine, so far, but this post and others with issues and stories of replacements on VERY low mileage vehicles is frankly sickening. And….. yes I’ve seen it pointed out here that the percentage of trucks with actual problems (tranny and otherwise) is really small. That said, one transmission needing to be replaced on any vehicle with such low mileage is just wrong.

Well I guess I’ll just keep crossing my fingers every time I start mine.

They’re putting new transmissions in for replacements under the TSB criteria. Haven’t seen anyone on the forum showing getting a reman.

One thing to keep in mind anything manufactured has tolerances, you can have two identical units, one will last 150k or more and its sibling craps out early! This is caused by tolerances and of course the design. all manufacturing, including aviation has the same potential. Other thing to consider is maintenance! Changing your oil at 30k is commonly recommended. Automatic transmissions are very complex these days.

Are they sure? I was once told by a dealer service rep that you don’t get brand new but remanufactured. He said only X number of new are built and they go into new vehicles. I really don’t know myself other than what I was told.

Yes, the part number for the new transmission on a 4x4 Ranger is
KB3Z-7000-B. The reman is part number KB3Z-7000-BRM. All of the people posting copies of their warranty paperwork are showing the KB3Z-7000-B including my truck. Both part numbers are legit Ford numbers. Attaching pics of my repair order and tag on my new transmission for reference. Note there are core charges for both new and reman.
