Transmission dip stick seized… how do I get it off to fill transmission…

1st post and Whelp… I’ll start with, I should’ve checked to make sure I can get the dip stick off before dumping the fluid… but I didn’t. So pans off and trans fluid is out and now I’m using my 19mm socket to loosen and remove dipstick so I can refill the trans…. It isn’t budging. I used a bit of muscle but stopped short of trying more extreme measures due to the tight space (breaker bar won’t fit and not super eager to hit it with a torch, again because it’s so tight). It’s cold and hasn’t run in several hours. It looks fine, no corrosion. But the thing won’t budge. Lefty loosie isn’t doing the trick. Any help would be great. Happy 4th guys!

6 point socket first of all. Tap the ratchet with a hammer in the CCW direction. It's like using an impact gun, lots of little taps rather than one strong twisting motion. It'll loosen.

Are you using a 19mm box wrench? Try positioning it so that you can tap it with a small hammer...looking from the bottom up...that should be clockwise...

Working from bottom up, it should be CLOCK WISE...from top that would translate to counter clockwise...if you're turning counter clockwise from bottom, you're tightening it...and yes, small little taps with a hammer to loosen...

Alternate between loosening and tightening. That bolt should not be that tight unless it was cross threaded.

The posts above have the right idea, maybe also try a little heat to the case.

I got mine loose from the top side. Used a universal on the socket and 2 long extensions for a 3/8 socket wrench. You can get a good position and crack it that way

Always get the fill plug free first. Been there before too.

when I checked mine the first time a few months ago i was almost certain the cap would not come off and I was doing something wrong. that mutha was on tight tight. like I had two hands on it and used the grunt sounds. I used a combo wrench closed end of course and it still deformed the cap some as its pretty flimsy. maybe a shot of rem oil or blaster etc. would loosen it up some.
fords way of keeping us from checking the lifetime no service required transmission fluid lol.

I used msfitoy method and tapped it with a hammer. I was nervous about the aluminum but tappy tappy got it free. But now my next question, I have searched the forum and see guys measuring fluid hot, cold , warm…. The book says 6.2 quarts…. I had 5.9 in cold. Did the trust thing with my girlfriend and had her start it and row gears while on jacks and my dip stick went from 5 to dry…. So I just put in another .8. I’m at 6.7 now and the stick is still dry and my arm has level 2 burns on it with gloves… lol. So I don’t want to overfill it but… how much can I keep putting? Pics for attention…

Sorry, I have not performed the filter change yet on my ranger but here is some info

Total Dry - Complete Overhauled Transmission = 12.8 Qts

Manual States for Filter/Pan Removal start with 5 Qts and add as needed.

You stated (On-Jacks) - Is the truck level on the jack stands?

I think you are confusing the Oil Level Quantity with Transmission Oil Quantity.
Engine Oil Quantity = 6.2 Qts

I think the guys that have done it, measured what they pulled out and then replaced with same.
So, your only option without that is going to be guess work and slowly add fluid till you hit the
Hot Check Level (Between 4 & 5)

The difference is how much fluid the T/Convertor and Pump is holding, and it normally equates to about 3 quarts.

So a rough guess estimate you will need to add 8 to 9 quarts total, I would probably add 1/2 at a time till I see it on the dipstick, then slowly add to the Hot Level (Marks)

If you did do the filter and then had issues with the cap it was still draining slowly from other cavities in the transmission. So it easily could be more than you think. Measure what you took out and see if it’s more than you think.

Going to be replacing fluid, filter and pan this weekend. Can someone tell me how to get at the fill cap. Tried a couple of different approaches but could not get enough force on it to remove it. Just can not find a good angle for the wrenches.

Lay on your back under the fill cap and use a 19mm open wrench...use a small ball peen hammer and tap the end of the wrench TOWARDS YOUR RIGHT (clockwise)...from the top, this would translate to be counter clockwise to loosen...
