My son and I just changed all the fluids, my son is an A-Tech for GM. The transmission was definitely about 1.5 quarts low from the factory. Drained 5 (slightly more) put 6.5 back in to get it to between 4-5 on the dipstick….the dipstick that apparently a dipstick designed! Lol.

So has anyone compared what the dipstick reads while cold vs hot? Curious what the difference would be.

There is a Ford techno you tube that says the difference between cold and hot is one number. So if you are between 4 & 5 hot it will be 5 & 6 cold.

Shouldn't the first time be during dealer prep?
One would think, but a a very large number of us discovered that the dealership's make ready departments couldn't even properly check the air pressure in the tires. There's no way those clowns would know how to properly check the transmission fluid level.

The factory intends the tranny to not require routine servicing or they would have provided a conventional dipstick. I would bet a beer that checking the tranny fluid is not on the new car prep checklist.

That is very odd especially when trucks are coming out low on fluid. I wonder if I should take my new truck to an independent mechanic before accepting delivery

My understanding was that between 5-6 was full hot. 4-5 would technically be overfilled if I read it correctly. Sorry for the bad screen capture below as I captured in it from a YouTube video from a ford tech.

We checked it while hot with a scan tool hooked up to it to monitor correct trans temp for accurate measurement.

Interesting indeed. The screen grab I had was from a ford service manual supposedly. Now I wonder which is correct. Appreciate the screen capture!
