Why is everyone complaining about everything on these trucks? I didn't even know there was an issue with our transmissions? I drive mine every day, it has a whopping 5500 miles on it and I don't have or I don't think I have any issues?

But honestly, if I was just some random DA guy out there, looking at buying a Ranger and accidentally found this forum before buying one, it would probably deter me to buy something else....

Seems like a lot of yall just complain about normal wear and tear with these trucks, ??...

Sorry to rant, it's just every time I come to this forum, there's a new post about someone complaining about something that's mostly nothing... Example: "The other day, I filled up my tank with fuel, all the way to the top, but the more I drive it, the more the fuel level needle drops, does anyone else have this problem or is it just me????"

That's why I stayed away for so long... That's why my father-in-law will not register on this forum....

Maybe I won't get banned for my ranting...?
I know, right? Everyone quit bitchen and drive...you have plenty of time to save up for a new tranny ...before you get to 95K... o_O ?

Completely agree. When I first started on this forum everyone
was so happy about pretty much everything on the truck, especially
the transmission . Since about 2021 some new people find all kinds of unknown issues. People just like to bitch or simply don't do their
homework.

It's very common in certain forums.
We see mostly negative posts because people don't post "Hey, everything is fine with my xxxx!"
"It was fine yesterday, and still fine today "
.
Also, I see no problem with you ranting about all our ranting. :)

Well, I wasn't calling you out, I just happened to see this post when I got on earlier.

It's like the "fuel in oil" debacle, along with a few others... The fuel in oil one craziness is the whole reason I didn't get on here much anymore...

Another one is the Tacoma vs Ranger crap... I like vehicles, all vehicles, Domestic and Foreign, trucks, cars, muscle, imports, etc. I like the Tacoma, I cannot fit well in it, over the Ranger, so I chose the Ranger. It's almost to the point where hillbillies bitch about Chevy is better than Ford... That's still a thing at my work, but I usually just tell the Chevy coworkers to FO, LOL!

No concerns here.
I didn't think you were specifically calling me out.
.
Some of the threads here have had me concerned, but the competition offerings weren't what I wanted.
Btw... Consumer Reports has the Maverick & Ranger right up at the top.

Catch-cans are one of the most brilliant snake oils of our lifetime. lol

As far as the main topic. A tune makes my driving experience more pleasant, as the factory transmission mapping did not meet my satisfaction performance wise and to me would be better suited for grandpa's Buick as it would mirror the driving behaviors of that vehicle brand's intended audience.

That's probably why I am happy with the transmission in "D" as is. :D - I seriously drive like an old man. I drive like there's an egg between my foot and the gas pedal.

I can see how it could bother some folks.

I'm a pretty aggressive down shifter in a manual so it's not too unsettling to me.
Glad to hear this is fairly normal in tow. When coming to a stop the downshifts are definitely more aggressive. Normal mode shift pretty smooth for me, tow definitely has some more aggressive/harsher downshifting. I imagine it would seem better actually pulling a trailer or boat with it. Well now I just need a boat or trailer to tow.

Love my XLT! Put some cool parts on, put some more cool parts on, and so on and so on and so on! Look at my truck, wash my truck, add parts and fix up my truck, IT IS A GREAT TRUCK!

Does it have a weakness, dont know. When something is not the way I like it, I upgrade it. There are plenty of places to find goodies. (Search the forums ??;):p:cool:;)) If not, no worries. You wear it out, you fix it.

Mine is a 2020 XLT 4x4 - at just over 10k miles at 2yrs 3mos. Expecting a new battery before Nov. ;)

Love your truck, enjoy your truck, play with your truck. Remember... IT IS A TRUCK.

84k to go! - But I serviced the tranny the other day and added a new pan, why? Because it's cool. Maybe that it'll get me an extra 10500 miles pas that now infamous 95k mark.

Sorry @Mirage775 that some of the voices are too loud at times. - I tend to "hit the ignore" with those as I have my own in my head to worry about. Thanks for sharing though!

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
2023 owner. 2 1/2 months in but due to weird timing and work/life requirements March was a 2800 mile month. Definitely NOT the norm for me. So here I sit today at just over 4K in a rather short time.

Initially I have to say, many times I was driving and doing a bit of WTF over the transmission shifting. Not hating on it, just trying to analyze it and sort it out in my mind. (Can't hate on it anyway as I LOVE my truck!)

I tried using S mode. While fun briefly, not a mode I want/need/enjoy during routine drives. Tried trailer mode. Ummmm.... not bad. Holds gears longer, more engine braking, etc. But still not my desired every drive mode. Though I don't hesitate to use it in low speed very hilly areas.

Reason for my post? Not sure exactly when, but somewhere between 3500-4000 miles this thing really came into it's own. Seriously. I go somewhere now I just put it in D and don't even worry about it. It shifts very smoothly and isn't near as shy about downshifting. Had to run about 50 miles of errands yesterday. And at one point found myself thinking "damn this thing shifts smoothly now." (But of course Blue trucks probably shift better due to being the mostest gooderest bestest ever color in the while wide world. :like: :turkey:)

The Warden is allowing me to accompany her on a supervised release for a long weekend. We are taking the awesome Tremor for our extended weekend mini-vacation. As we'll be staying in, and driving around some not insignificant mountain area, we'll be on the typical steep, curvy, etc. mountain back roads for the next few days. Previously I'd have told you that I'd be using a combination of trailer tow along with a mix of S. But now? Nope. I'll be putting it in D and going about my business. If I do use trailer mode, it will simply be to take advantage of the engine braking on long downhills.

Not making light of anyone else's transmission concerns or issues. But put me down as one satisfied customer.

Just my 2 cents.

On those long downhills I set the cruise with it in "D" and it will downshift to 6th and hold there. Keeps it from accelerating down the hill.
