Mine is going to the dealer tomorrow for the SYNC update and to have them check out my transmission 3rd gear rubber band gear change (again).

If it comes back (again) with no problem found, I may be announcing my departure.

Got my truck back today with the SYNC update performed.

For the transmission, they found several DTCs and flashed the PCM per TSB.

I guess this is step one to see if it's resolved.

That was the only problem I had with my '19 and pretty common for many '19 and early '20 Rangers. Luckily I was living in AZ at the time where we don't have bad winters or get a lot of fluctuation in temps and I just did the temp fix myself. It was easy enough to pull out the actuator and manually turn it to change from heat - cold.

I got a letter in the mail telling me to get mine updated for free.

That said, you can also update it yourself quite easily.

Also, my transmission is shifting MUCH better after the PCM flash.

I haven’t had near the problems you’ve had, but enough that I don’t want it anymore. This is the last ford I will ever own. If I am unable to find something I like before may 2026 i will buying the extended warranty without a doubt.

I’ve got a 21 fx4 bought new. 46k miles zero issues. I’ve taken her all over and have been impressed with all capabilities except for gas mileage when loaded heavy.

IIRC, the only Fords I had any significant problems with (out of 15 or so over the decades?) was a beloved 1989 Eddie Bauer extended Aerostar (AC line seals failed), a fantastic (wished Ford still made them) 1999 Windstar (transmission failed needing replacement), and a 2012 F-150 FX4 (10R60 lead frame fail).

Knock wood.

I had an '89 extended length Aerostar. Bullet proof. And a great road trip vehicle when the kids are young. Kid's stuff, luggage, large dog... and head on down the highway. Very comfortable to drive long distance as well.

I don't have the miles of some of you guys yet. 2023 with 28K+ on it. Zero issues. Is the transmission smooth as butter? Nope. Not even. I have found myself using tow mode often for non-highway driving. And in the mountain slow steep curvy backroads I seem to prefer manual shifting. But the truck has been trouble free. Granted mine is blue so that typically helps all facets of vehicle ownership.

I will agree with what a few have stated here prior. I'd have been perfectly fine with a 6-7 speed transmission. 10 is simply too many choices compounded by the "let's get it in 10th as soon as possible to improve our fleet wide MPG average for the government regs" bullshit.
But all in all the transmission does not rise to the level of being a complaint for me.

Count me as a happy Ranger owner. 100% would buy it all over again. And as I've stated before, the Warden is very happy we have it. And she is not a truck girl. We've worked this thing hard more than a few times with heavy loads (one in particular accidental overload) for yard projects. Never a complaint from the truck.

My wife is still angry at me for trading in the Aerostar! Her absolutely favorite vehicle (especially appreciated the AWD feature as we had it while stationed over in southern Germany). Whoda thunk that? That an Aerostar would be one of our all-time faves?

Also had an '89 extended Aerostar. Wife's favorite vehicle. We bought it used in the early 2000's for $3k and after a few years the tin worm got to it and think we got a T&C in 2005. Used it for many road trips with the kids with a car top carrier, camping, towing the boat and hauling remodeling supplies in addition to its daily use for work. Occasionally see the short versions still running around. If I could find a good one still out there, I'd probably but that over a new vehicle.

It's a non issue for the winter for me as it's just stuck on heat but it's slightly annoying during the summer months but I'll probably fix it whenever I get the gen 6 ranger dash swap put together

2020 with about 27K miles now, I had the passenger power window motor replaced, but had to fight with Ford for that. The dealership claimed the window was just "dirty" -- the window took 2-3x as long to roll up as any other window -- and claimed they cleaned it, which didn't improve anything. After the window motor was replaced, everything was good.

Anything and everything else has been Sync related, which is pretty normal given the shitshow that is considered software development now.
