Just stumbled upon this thread.. I had this same idea and went ahead and got the TM knob and trail control button. I tried messing around in FDRS with no luck and a few weeks plus a few other mods in between and I'm now back to trying to get this working.

Has anyone had any luck with successfully programming these buttons? Mine is an XL but I've already upgraded the instrument cluster to XLT style.

You can program the terrain management S4 Trail control we do not know yet. I myself poked around on FDRS before but I was not able to find anything. You were going to have to get Forscan in order to do this.

Hello all,
I am new to the group...

I haven't bought a Ranger yet - I am looking at buying one...

So, If I have been reading correctly - I can add on the TM function as well as the hill decent function with the button upgrade from Ford as a Forscan code change? Not sure if spending the extra money is worth it, if its a matter of adding on buttons and then adding skid plates later...

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken and someone else can correct me here I'm pretty sure all the Rangers have Hill descent control. All I did was add the terrain management and that was it.

Hill descent is part of the 360 option and works under 20mph... maintains 2 to 12 mph on a hill. Active cruise does about the same thing but over 20 mph. More for road use than off road like the 360 option.

I think all Rangers have hill hold where it will hold position on a hill until you get to the accelerator.

So, the 360 option is Trail Control?

Honestly spend the money up front and get all the options you want, its so much easier. and cheaper in the long run if you put a value on your time.

I don't know. I'm not an off roader so wasn't interested in FX4. But, if I can get TM for the cost of a $57 switch, and about 5 minutes to install the switch and another 5 minutes to enable.........

But, to each his own.

If you are not an off roader then I personally wouldn't bother either way.

You would be amazed what snow and ice mode does to the throttle response when driving on snowy or icy roads...

You just have too much torque on tap if the roads are icy and wet...

This was the main driver for my interest in TM. Figured the low cost was worth the risk of trying it out.

Thanks for the description of this particular capability.

That started to sink in with me once I hit the 35-40 age bracket.
