Anecdotal but I thought Ford contracted with Mobil 1 for their house brand synthetic?
Motorcraft oil is supplied by Conoco-Phillips. They also sell oil under the Kendall name, Phillips 66, 76, Lubegard and many others.

Just my opinion but also take into account frequency of change. If you are a 5,000 km (3,000 mile) change person, the oil is less important.
If you run until the minder says change, I would use full synthetic. As others have said, reputable brand but shop the sales, if you can.
Ok, I was thinking of staying with Motorcraft since that's what the truck has had since new. Thanks

Full synthetic 5w-30 of whatever brand is the right price the day you're shopping for oil is the way to go

Edit: and pick up the motivX fuel filter wrench and oil filler funnel to make the changes a little nicer

Synthetic holds up better especially with a turbo.
It's not like the engine gets used to a certain type of oil.
I use Valvoline synthetic changed every 5k , but whatever.....
A Motorcraft FL-400S filter is larger and fits right on in place of the FL-910S. Side benefit is being longer and easier to reach. I usually use the Mobil 1 equivalent M1-209A.
I replaced the PITA plastic screws on the splash guard with neodymium magnets from Amazon, sandwiched the flap between three pair of them with help from a dab of Gorilla Glue. Much faster to change the oil that way.

Syn oils are proven superior by ASTM D4172 four ball wear test.
Regarding which syn to buy, remember that Ford and other OEMs don't produce lubricants. Someone else does. I use Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Euro syn for our Dart. But with the Ranger's recommended change intervals, I don't think the brand matters much.

I use Mobil 1 full synthetic. Idk how true it is but I’ve heard that once you start using synthetic, you shouldn’t change back to blend. Apparently it can cause issues?

Im curious how Motorcraft stands up against Mobil one.
A Used Oil Analysis is the only way to know for sure.
Run each oil for say, 5000 miles, and send a sample of each to Blackstone Labs and see how they compare.

I did that with the Taurus my wife use to have with Mobil 1 and Motorcraft Blend and saw virtually no difference but that was with a 3.0 Vulcan motor which is a fairly indestructible lump of iron that isn't hard on oil. A 3.0 Vulcan you could fill the crankcase with peanut butter and get a good UOA.

Some people have posted specs that the bypass valve pressure is higher but that's not a bad thing, kind of offset by the fact that there is more filter media, and if you change your oil regularly it's not going to matter anyway. Dudes on the Focus ST boards have been using the FL-400S for years with no ill effects. Ford just wanted to standardize filters and in the Fiesta (my daughter used to have one) and Focus the filter hangs down in the front of the block and a longer filter could get damaged by a rock or curb.
Regardless, Motorcraft filters are an excellent filter for the money but they use a paper filter media, which if you know how paper is made, does not have uniform porosity, i.e. the holes are kind of randomly sized. Mobil 1, K&N, and maybe some other premium filters use synthetic filter media where the porosity is better controlled and more uniform. If you want "better" then use the FL-910S equivalent from Mobil 1 or K&N. K&N has the advantage of a 1" nut welded on the bottom of the filter so it's easier to remove (do NOT use the nut to tighten the filter).
I'm of the opinion that if you change the oil every 5000 miles or less then it doesn't matter much what oil and filter you use, but synthetic is "better".

Castrol syn blend (white bottle) for years. Last year I finally switched to their high mileage version. Truck is happier than a turtle in mud

Bypass pressure only matters to the filter itself. It's a delta between the media. I would expect it to change with a larger filter.
