It stopped because the hinge was no longer vibrating, causing the resonance in the hollow tailgate.

Mine was bellowing like a wounded ox.

wow we are split so evenly! im not anti damper just dont NEED one. if it was free or came with the truck eh sure i might like it. but a tank of gas cost too many dampers these days

I have bought and installed probably 4 or 5 DeeZee tailgate dampers on F150's I have had in the past and now my Ranger. I have never had any squeak or problem with any of them. DeeZee makes a great product! I would not buy an off brand tailgate damper since DeeZee makes a great product at a fair price. Seriously!!!

I could have used a damper back when tailgates weighed 150 pounds.
The Ranger tailgate that I can lower with one finger ? I don't need a damper for that.
