I'm so on the fence about this. Last week I did wish I had one as I wanted to open the tailgate when I was standing in the bed.

BUT ... what's so bad about letting it slam open?

In the old days when it was just two metal pieces that pivoted in the middle, you always just let it slam open. I don't remember a tailgate ever falling off or being damaged. Back in the days when you could ride in the bed of a truck and even sit on the open tailgate going 30 mph down the road!

And our tailgates are really light, so what's the long term damage of letting it slam open? Apart from the smashing of little kid heads (which may explain why I'm like this as an old fart now).

This sounds like a possible Phil question. =)
Oh God , another damper thread . This is about as far as I'm gonna read this one . I've got too much work to do today as I'm filling in for someone on vacation and there are different people watching me than usual :)

The old trucks did not have sensitive cameras in the tailgate or electronics in the tail lights that do not like excessive vibrations over time . I laugh at the naysayers who themselves purchased a truck that has power windows instead of a manual crank that works just fine . I'd bet most are too weak to drive a real truck 5 miles without power steering , brakes and air conditioning also ,LOL

Maybe we Need a support group for Ranger drivers
WHO DID BUY A DAMPER ?

But IF a new support group is created, I’m not sure this forum has sufficient bandwidth to handle all of the traffic, threads and data processing demands ? !

Thanks Benny! I didn't even consider the camera! Now that's something I can use to help make this decision (even though it may be an inevitable truth of the universe).

HAHAHA! "Don't ask don't tell" had me laughing. Me and the 4 other people who thought it was a funny vote.

On the real though, get a dang damper lol. I stubbornly held off on it for a while until I got my deezee damper installed, and since installing it I've found myself opening my tailgate for no reason sometimes just because it's nice and kind of fun...

I'm deeply ashamed ... but I know that I'll get lots of loving support and warm hugs from all of you for my slip and new character flaw, and the loss of my man card ...

If that obnoxious brat thinks they are good, no way in hell would I ever put one on my truck?.
If she endorsed it I would remove mine.
