There will be no dampening of my tailgate.
Say what you will...there is no futility in resistance.
Stand firm, men. You can do this. Resist with all your might, as your very Man Card's existence depends on it!
Vive la Resistance!

I got one in a giveaway, so I didn’t “give in,” however, I have little kids and I’m glad I got it. I’m also a crippled and it’s nice to open it while still being able to keep my hand on my cane. So no regrets here. Happy to have it.

What if you don‘t have a truck yet and have been staring at your damper for 5 months?

I just checked again and the damper side has a little more play in it where the other has none. I added this a couple years ago and didn't notice any then but it could've always been there.
Serious question. Wouldn't that mean the tailgate is supported by the damper and not the cable on that side?

I don't have a damper and don't intend to get one. Not for He-Man or ego reasons, but because I only open it about once a month.

My Two standard answers.....I still have all my "man parts" and don't need a damper.
2nd answer....Would Chuck Norris need a damper?

Years ago my brother bought a nice BMW 7 series. I was riding in it one day and sort of absent-mindedly reached up for the overhead handle to let my arm hang from it. When I let go of the handle, I noticed it slowly folded up back into it's closed position... it was so much more of a premium feeling thing than the handles in cheap cars that either slam right back up into the ceiling or were just straps that didn't move at all.

So for me, I installed the damper because it makes the truck feel a bit more premium, and I also frequently open the tailgate with my arms full, and prefer not to have it slam down / possibly hit the stuff I'm carrying.

Also, for anyone who has not seen it yet, I produced this install video, that includes some nice glamor shots of the tailgate damper in action:

But damper or no damper, anyone who drives a Ranger is awesome in my book!
