Question: did installing the damper change the tension on your tailgate cables from the driver side to the passenger side?
No it didn't and shouldn't change the tension from side to side.

Hmmm mine did - I wonder why. Seems to work fine.
I just checked again and the damper side has a little more play in it where the other has none. I added this a couple years ago and didn't notice any then but it could've always been there.

They are relatively inexpensive, so if you don't like it (I cannot fathom why) you can just take the actual cylinder off in seconds. Get the real deal, not a knock-off. I absolutely love it. Just pop the latch and let go. By the time you bend over and pick up whatever you set down because you're hands are full, the tailgate will be down and ready.

Whew!

I tend to notice little things like this which can suck the joy out of upgrades and projects if I’m not careful. Before I know it I’m paranoid the tailgate is going to fall off.

I hear ya I'm usually aware of things like this too but it's been on so long I just don't pay attention now. If it's any consolation I'm in/out of the bed of my truck several times a day when working and all is still good after 2.5 years.

I think Dave dropped the ball on marketing If it were me heads would roll in that department. This device is not just a damper it’s a medical device, I had my surgeon write a prescription so I could get one for my new truck so as not to reinjure my shoulder after surgery By opening a tailgate and not being able to catch it. You young guys with all the body parts that still work just remember your going to get old and need one of these devices. Just remember to keep your mind out of the gutter when I talk about body parts that don’t work, I’m talking about shoulders, elbows and wrists. (Don’t be a pig lol)
