Wow, my 2019 XLT has it both on the driver and passenger side.

Neighbour suggested a wrap would be the best fix. My issue is the touch up paint is gloss and this has more of a mat finish.

It look likes it might be aluminum (have not tested with a magnet yet). If so it won't rust. My problem is my office is on the second floor so I see it every time I look out the window....
it might not rust in the traditional sense, but aluminium corrodes in its own way.
You'll note if you look closer that there will be some white powdery substance and the metal is now bumpy and unsmooth.
The covering of these strips breaks free once the corrosion beneath takes over enough to destroy the adhesion of said covering. Left alone it will work its way further and further up the pieces.

My plan is to cut the loose covering off, buff and polish what crap I can off, add some chemical conversion fluids and coat with some high quality paint and continue to monitor it and fix as necessary.

I am not buying new pieces for the price they offer, or the work involved to change them.

I have warrantied 3 lefts sides and 3 right side over the last 4 yrs. The last set have been great! Finally! And I like in SoCal
Good to know, I’m going to stop by a dealership this week. It’s still under warranty so fingers crossed. I guess it’s the bad So Cal air.

Apparently the Premier Extended Warranty doesn’t cover corroding parts. Thanks FORD.

I think you're being taken for a ride . contact Ford corporate and complain.

I know this is the Canadian warranty info, but this is the basic statement that should apply if you're still under the basic warranty

page 14 has no criteria that would involve your situation.

I noticed mine looking strange the other day....like a piece of leather. I reached up and found that all of the coating was still there but it was lifted off of the surface.

I'm going to sand and paint.

Well… I think you’d call it the roof trim… whatever the case, here’s a pic:

what are my solutions for correcting this? Run some sandpaper on it to clear the flaking, tape off the area, and then hit it with some rustoleum? It’s the roof so I’m not ultra concerned about the appearance. I just don’t want rust to set in. Open to suggestions!

You can see if the dealership you got it from will repaint it. Had a similar issue with the paint not adhering properly on a Mustang hood that was repainted as a warranty claim.

yeah I appreciate the thought, but I’ve had this Ranger for over 3 years and the warranty on it is smoked.

What you thought of is probably your best option if you are truly concerned. Or this is a great time to.get a roof rack that will cover it!!

I replaced that exact problem under warranty. They had to drop interior celling to get to the screws to remove the trim.

Holy crap…. I seriously thought mine was caused by like a rock or even bit of hail (I’m parked outside) so I never thought check the TSB/Issues section… hell , I didn’t even search for it as I thought I was a one off and this was just a paint maintenance. Sorry for the duplicative thread!

No way im paying Ford to drop my roof ceiling to get at screws and stuff. Rustoleum for now, and maybe a helpful roof rack down the line as @Frenchy suggested.

Much appreciated, folks!

Mine did the same thing on passenger side front piece. Was in dealer for my 2 recall notices that I keep blowing off. Just 400 miles left on the first warranty so they’re covering it.

Was told the whole thing is an assembly and has to be replaced.
