it might not rust in the traditional sense, but aluminium corrodes in its own way.Wow, my 2019 XLT has it both on the driver and passenger side.
Neighbour suggested a wrap would be the best fix. My issue is the touch up paint is gloss and this has more of a mat finish.
It look likes it might be aluminum (have not tested with a magnet yet). If so it won't rust. My problem is my office is on the second floor so I see it every time I look out the window....
You'll note if you look closer that there will be some white powdery substance and the metal is now bumpy and unsmooth.
The covering of these strips breaks free once the corrosion beneath takes over enough to destroy the adhesion of said covering. Left alone it will work its way further and further up the pieces.
My plan is to cut the loose covering off, buff and polish what crap I can off, add some chemical conversion fluids and coat with some high quality paint and continue to monitor it and fix as necessary.
I am not buying new pieces for the price they offer, or the work involved to change them.
