2021 Ranger 4x4 STX, STX limited edition, 101, factory tow package, limited slip; AVS bug deflector, Pace Edwards Ultra Groove tonneau cover, 4 x mud flaps, side step bars, TAIL GATE DAMPER !

The first 1570 miles from new was a 50/50 mix of commuting and towing a 4400 lbs horse trailer. Average MPG regarding to the dash 20.7

I did a quick trip to Texas last weekend.

4050 mile round trip.

I was driving the 1997 miles east to Texas from NorCal without trailer and driving all the time at the speed limits + 3-5 mph:

Hand calculated 22.09 MPG, dash computer 22.87 ( 7 fill ups )

On the way back I hauled an empty horse trailer for 2053 miles with 2000 lbs. I kept my speed at 65 mph. I had all the way home heavy wind coming from the West ( wind advisory ).

Hand calculated 13.21 MPG, dash computer 13.92 ( 13 fill ups )

Best without trailer 24.8 MPG, worst 18.9 MPG ( hand calculated )
Best with trailer 20.24 MPG, worst 10.05 MPG ( hand calculated )

I am pretty sure that without the heavy head on wind the MPG with the trailer would be around 15 - 17 MPG.

I am on my third tank of 93 octane (I first did regular then middle grade for a few tanks) and am only getting 17.9 or so mpg. Most of my miles are around town to work which is not very far. Also I am very curious as to how accurate the mileage to empty is on your trucks? It will say 25 miles to empty or 5 miles to empty. Has anyone gone over the 0 miles left mark?
Thanks,
No way!:frown::crackup:

Worst thing you can do for electric fuel pump is to run it low on fuel. :headbang: Filler up.

My Ranger has ~7500 miles and never reset the #1 MPG meter. Currently it reads 21.2 since the truck was new. I am sure a lot depends on the kind of driving you would do what that average would be.

I'm at 5k.
After getting consistent 13.5 L/100km during winter, truck just did 10.5 L/100km.
Hand calculated, about same driving.

I think that the 93 is only burning your money !

In some of the other threads people stated they got about 1 to 1.5 mpg better. That can be pretty easy happen if the filler nozzle shuts off a little earlier... and now take the pocket calculator ! Your MPG might be 5% - 7.5 % better but you paid 20% more !?!?!? I follow my mpg's pretty close to see how I can get the best out of the truck without slow poking. During my 4050 mile trip I learned a lot !!! Using the +/- buttons of the cruise control to accelerate improves the mpg ! The truck is shifting less ! The same when I hauled the trailer. After filling up and hitting the Interstates / Freeways... I accelerated to the posted speed without hammering the pedal to the floor, and switched the cruise control on. I tried to do everything with the cruise control on just using the +/- buttons. Like that the transmission shifted in tow mode also in the highest gear !

Your MPG is depending on your foot !

The biggest impact to MPG is, 100%, your foot. However, 91 is not about mileage for me, it's about getting advertised power and not losing ~20% because I'm cheap. I'm happy to pay the premium to get all the performance I paid for. I've done it since I purchased my '15 Mustang Ecoboost in 2015.

The Ranger just runs smoother and better on 91 over 87.

Next recession I'll try 91, should be soon, in a few months I would think.
Using cruise control save a lot too.

Yup. Plus with how quiet and fast these trucks are it saves from the tickets too

Here’s another weekend run on Ga mountain backroads, where I got a personal best 28.3 on a 50+ mile run. Roads were moderately hilly and I drove all in D, no ASS, 93 octane. Speed limit was mostly 55 on this route and traffic kept speeds around the limit to 5mph over. The thing about 93 is the truck runs much better at low RPM, which is where you get good mileage. I use cruise control on level to moderate grades only. On hills, I can manage the rpm’s and gear shifts better with my foot.

Leave the Traction Control off unless you need it ie: Rain, mud. It puts some drag on the motor. Check your mileage that way, see if it helps.

After adjusting mine it's now dead on now to my Fuelly app and dash readout. It took about 7-8 fill ups but the last 4 have all been perfect.
