I had the dealer do my first 3 oil changes because they were free. I didn't have any problems at all and the service manager Justin was a great guy but sadly he's gone now. I would make my appointments for 7am and be out by no later than 8am with the oil changed and tired rotated and the truck was spotless.

Since Justin left I started going to my local Brakes Plus. One of my supply managers turned me on to them when I was looking for a place to instal my level kit. I know not even shop is the same but these guys are all very professional and have always treated me right. When they installed my Eibach coilovers the manager even gave me a ride back home and came out and picked me up later that day. I think it's $80 for full synthetic and a tire rotation but they always go out of their way to do a lot more.

When I came back from out trip in June I had racked up 5,000 miles so I had them change the oil. Without asking they stuck it back on the alignment rack just to check it to make sure everything was still good. I've had enough dirt and rust in my eyes from working on my older vehicles and for $80 I can't be bothered anymore. I trust these guys 100% which I know is pretty rare now a days but there are still some good places out there.

Appreciate it. Maybe just the dealership I go to and the service writer doesn’t know. Maybe it automatically comes up on the work order as regular oil but it’s the synthetic blend they still put in cause the oil guys know it’s supposed to be blend for the works?
@NoTacos

Sorry for delay. So, first & last 2 oil changes were CX05W30BSP, which is blend.
Maybe they made a typo?
When I first received the truck I checked the oil & it was clear, like the full synth in my sports car.
I was surprised after my first oil change it was so dark, a blend. At first I wondered if they had
forgotten to change the oil, then I realized it was a blend. ?

So far I haven't had bad luck with my Ranger. I am debating on taking it to them and paying for the oil/rotation now that I am past the first few free (well prepaid). I did have some bad luck with our Explorer tho. Had the first few free and when I finally did it myself I had to use vice grips to get the drain plug off. They had been using an impact wrench on it, I believe, and rounded it out so bad I couldn't get the wrench on it. Had to go to O'Reilly's and buy a new one. ?

Here's a good reason why I like to do myself & use a fumoto valve.
First 5 yrs use dealership just for the warranty(yuk).

I have been doing my own oil changes and rotations. Since I can just squeeze under the truck, it is fairly fast and easy to get the drain plug off. The hardest part is removing the skid plate, so I put a Valvomax plug on my Christmas list. I should be able to drain the oil with the plate still on going forward. Doing the rotation at the same time, I remove the driver front tire and access to the filter is very convenient. I used to have a Chevy Equinox I inherited from my Dad and I had to use ramps, jack stands and a special socket with an extension and u-joint to get the plastic filter top off. So the Ranger is no harder, maybe even easier. Total cost is $30-35 for full synthetic and takes maybe 45 minutes of my time. The LT tires are heavy though and are a pain to get back on the studs. I may have become weakened from damper use.

My one and only time with the Ranger at Ford I needed LOF, M&B 4 tires. (my own) Use points? Sure.
It's done. Get in, service reminder still on. Grabbed a goober luber walking by and he reset it.

Get down the highway and find my back teeth are chattering. Get home and find every factory wheel weight still on in the same position. Didn't even balance new tires.
Like I said, my one and ONLY time!!

I use the local Quick Lane. You just turn up. First time I had a puncture and they checked and said it's fine. I asked them to take it back in and look again and they found the dirty great nail in the tire at the second attempt. The second time was fine, oil change, tire rotation etc. Third time I took our B-Series Mazda in, 100k and not a single problem apart from basic maintenance. They handed it back and It broke down about 3 miles away, sputtering etc. Called and said you've broken it can you come tow it back, they said not, but the service manager drove out in his charger and tried to fix it by side of road lol. Eventually, he followed me back while I did a terrifying 3 mile drive with my foot flat to the pedal while it jerked and lunged its way down the road. They'd got dirt in the air filter while messing with it. In two minds whether to ever go again....

It's sad when the dealer can't even do the simple things like oil changes and rotations. Using an impact wrench on a drain plug is criminal in my opinion. Not checking lug nuts with a torque wrench is also. What else can they fxxk up if the simple things are done badly?

No idea, my mechanical knowledge is pretty much non-existent. I envy all you handy chaps on here.
Edit to add: also, I don't know if that's true, but it's what they said and it did seem to explain the sputtering movement...

I will be one to admit when I made a mistake. My work order says premium motor oil which says to me it’s regular oil, and so when I was looking at the code - against the manual - I presumed it was the code for the regular oil. Somehow I missed the difference in designation LSP6 (regular premium oil) and BSP (which isn’t listed in the manual).

That is probably why the service person thought I was asking for full synth. Gawd what a moron I am!
in which case - no problems at all with my oil changes.

Thanks CB!

At this point - I am not going to comment for a while due to extreme embarrassment. I am glad I never did a “Karen” over it?

I may punish myself by removing my TG damper.

 Ok, let's not get carried away now Peter! There's many other things you can do to punish yourself like watching reruns of That Girl or abstaining from sex for a month but never remove your damper. That's just bad Juju!!:devil:
