I was just wondering if anyone has done an oil filter relocation, what kit did you use, what you recommend as far as kits and extra parts, and advice on how to make the job easier. Thank you very much in advance.

Admin, if this is not in the right area would you please move it for me? Thx

Have you actually done a service yet, or are you just reading the boogey man stories that went around about it last year? I can do 10 complete changes for the time and money your relocation is going to set you back.

Yes, I just did my first oil change this past Monday. I am looking into this for personal reasons as I am not

I just did my first oil change this past Monday FYI. I have some mobility issues at times and having access to the oil filter from below would make it easier for me. Also put on the Fumoto drain valve so the next change will be easier and more convenient.

Are you going to change the OPs oil?

My question, while admittedly sarcastic, was a fair one. At the time he hadn't specified a reason for asking.

I would absolutely change someone's oil who had a reason for me to help out. Though I don't think the drive to MO would be worth it lol

Was your question fair? Absolutely.....now I’m being sarcastic. Anyway. The reason I wondered into this thread. Was because I was also interested in possibly relocating the oil filter. At age 53. Im just tired of things being difficult. For no good reason. My mechanic skill are at a fairly high level. But if I can spend a few bucks to make my life easier. I look at it as money well spent. Also my time is valuable. So if relocating the filter saves me 10-15 minutes of struggling with a filter every change. The time I will most likely save more than covers the cost of the relo-kit. If anyone has actually done this and can post photos. That would be awesome. I just don’t see a good place to mount a filter. Every inch of real a state under that hood seam to be accounted for.

I used an oil extractor with great results for my first oil change. Never removed the drain plug or even went under the truck. Might be worth considering? Costs about 3x what the fumoto plug costs, but you can use it on other vehicles too.

As for the relocation, Idk of any kits specifically from the Ranger; but if I'm not mistaken, they need to have their hoses changes from time to time. I'd be concerned with adding an additional point of potential failure.

I'd agree. I don't understand the love for the Fumoto valves either.

Thank you for the idea! I take it you went through the dipstick tube.

Having a Fumoto valve means I don't have to take off my skid plate to change the oil. Short hose and straight into an old jug for disposal. Drain pan would only be used for filter. I was looking at this kit, but haven't looked underneath to see if there's a good spot to put it. I'd rather not drill into anything, so that's a challenge I have to overcome as well.

The valve just makes it more convenient as you can connect a hose to it to direct the oil. I had one on my 2002 Ranger and loved it.
